Verb Ballets performs the work of Chung-Fu Chang; After-show reception with the Dancer/Choreographer Chung-Fu Chang

Enjoy a dance presentation featuring the work of Chung-Fu Chang, Taiwanese Dancer and Choreographer, performing his work with Verb Ballets, and then meet him and the company at a reception after the show.

Verb Ballets will perform his visually stunning, The Lily, a love story based on an ancient Taiwanese tale of passion and destiny which premiered last February. "The movement style is fluid and ritualistic, rooted in ballet but shaded by Asian colorations," said Donald Rosenberg of The Plain Dealer.

Chung-Fu Chang will be setting a new piece inspired by the wind, which has its potential of immense destructive powers but also the gentle heart that can calm one’s soul. Chang will also choreograph a new solo piece he will perform.

The evening will also include a new work, Four Last Songs, to be choreographed by Richard Dickinson. The piece is set to the poems that comprise the final song cycle by Richard Strauss' Four Last Songs titled Spring, September, Time to Sleep, and At Dusk written by Hermann Hesse and Joseph von Eichendorff. This piece will transform the masterful and haunting music of Strauss' last work and explore the beauty and gracefulness in the story of loss.

An update on our Meetup. Fred Bidwell, the owner of the Transformer Station, Cleveland's newest art museum ( has offered Verb his gallery for a dessert reception with the dancers following the Saturday 2/23 performance (about 9:45PM). There will be a small charge, details to follow. If you are not attending the performance, but could arrive early to the reception, Verb is seeking volunteers for the event. The Transformer Station is a project of Fred and Laura Ruth Bidwell Foundation that is designed to bring original contemporary arts exhibitions, events and programming from around the world to the west side. A recently renovated transit substation of the now defunct Cleveland Railway Company, Transformer Station is an 8,000 square foot museum in Cleveland’s Ohio City neighborhood that provides an additional opportunity for exposure to contemporary art in Northeast Ohio
