French's Dome

All climb levels welcome!

Come join us for some climbing at French's Dome! French's has a nice variety of climb grades from 5.7 - 5.12. If it's not too crowded with other climbers we will set up a couple ropes on different grades. This is a great place for those who like to lead sport climbs.

We will need at least one person who can lead belay so we can set up some ropes.

Carpool locations:
Suggested carpool donation is $5-8.

1). Gateway Transit Center
NE 99th & Pacific
Meet at the northwest end of covered parking area (Fred Meyer side), at 8:30 am. Targeted departure time 8:45 am.

2). Clackamas Town Center Transit Center 9225 SE Sunnyside Road
Meet at the northeast end of covered parking area, at 8:20. Targeted departure time 8:40 am. I (Stefani) will be at this location. I currently have two spots left in my vehicle. I am leaving earlier since I am organizing. Others may want to meet here and leave a bit later.

NW Forest Pass Parking is required. You can get one at many Bi-Marts, outdoor stores, or the NW Forest Office 70220 E Hwy 26 in Zig Zag (their website says they are open on Saturdays).

We will have a nice leisurely day of climbing and hanging out and chatting while resting between climbs. Bring snacks and water, and of course, climbing gear. If you want to bring some food to share, that might make it fun. I will bring a table and some chips and salsa.

This meet-up was a lot of fun! Thanks to all who came! Everyone had such a positive, supportive, and encouraging spirit. The weather was beautiful. The is rock great! We had several ropes going, climbs ranging from 5.7-5.10+, and a group did the multi-pitch. Because of the close proximity of all of the climbs we were able to socialize a bit more. We set up a table off to the side with some shared food and a place to store gear, so as not to crowd climbs. I really enjoyed getting to know people, and hope to have more opportunities to get to know and climb with you.

I'm interested, but have something to do in the morning. I may be able to go a little later (maybe 11-11:30?) Maybe somebody will be interested to keep climbing later in the day?

    Cheers,

I'd like to go, and I am willing to drive a carpool from Portland. I'm a 5.8/5.9 climber, comfortable belaying and would like more practice leading and lead belaying.

Hey, I have been wanting to check out French's Dome. I am coming with a friend, he has plenty of lead experience. We have a rope and plenty of gear. I plan to drive because I have a commitment later that afternoon and can't stay too long. I climb in the[masked] range, my friend higher. Looking forward to it.

I'm a 5.9/5.10 climber. Able to lead belay and clean trad gear if needed. I'm planning on doing some camping that weekend so as of now I'm coming solo.

    • Stefani

Hi Arkady. Great, bring your rope and QDs/sport climbing gear. Of 23 climbs there only 1 has trad, and its a 5.10bR with run out, so unless that's your cup of tea, likely won't need to lug the trad gear.
