Music Monday Meetup

We're continuing Music Mondays with a special video presentation, ALY MEETS THE CAJUNS. This is our first introduction of Aly Bain to the Portland community, and we'll continue in the coming weeks and months with the BBC series, Transatlantic Sessions, a series of musical productions by Glasgow-based Pelicula Films Ltd for BBC Scotland. The productions comprise collaborative live performances by various leading folk and country musicians from both sides of the North Atlantic, playing music from Scotland, Ireland, England and North America, who congregate under the musical direction of Aly Bain and Jerry Douglas.

Aly Meets the Cajuns
Add Shetland fiddle virtuoso Aly Bain with Cajun and Zydeco greats, and the music they make together is irresistible - Aly Meets The Cajuns is a guaranteed hip-shake of an introduction! Originally created for the Channel Four Television New Year celebrations of 1988-89. The original CD release received a record industry Silver Disc Award in 1991.

Aly Bain (fiddle) with Dewey Balfa (vocals, fiddle), Marc Savoy (accordion, fiddle), Ann Savoy (vocals, guitar), Michael Doucet (vocals, fiddle), Ida 'Queen Ida' Guillory (vocals, accordion), Harry LaFleur (vocals, fiddle), D L Menard (vocals, guitar) and Wayne Toups (vocals, accordion).

Accompanied by The Dewey Balfa Friends, Magic Sound including Charles Chavis (vocals, frottoir), The Bon Temps Zydeco Band, The Louisiana Aces including Blackie Forestier (accordion), Ervin 'Dick' Richard (fiddle) and The Zy-De-Cajon Band.

Dedicated to the memory of Dewey Balfa [masked]), the "icon of traditional Cajun music", and Boozo Chavis [masked]), the "King of Zydeco".

"Aly, consider yourself an honorary Cajun..." (Dewey Balfa)

Thanks to those who came out in the rain tonight to be lifted into the sunshine of song. So sorry I didn't catch your names. (I'm terrible with names.) But the music was great toe-stomping fun, and we've got much more music in the Clinton Street Theater's near future. So stay tuned.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.

Henry, started Reno Motorcycle Riders
