35 mile Road Ride - Casual Winter Pace

It's nice to see so many signed up for the "Out of Hibernation ride", and I wanted to post a ride along side of that one to accommodate those who like me; have been riding but quite sporadically the last couple of months. This will be at a pace of around 14-15mph.

If you have signed up for the Hibernation ride and are still on the waiting list by Friday, you are welcome to join this ride!

I will provide cue sheets and faster riders will wait for others at stop signs to catch up and as always, this is a NO DROP ride.  Bring plenty of liquids/snack and dress warmly. I'll have cue sheets..

Please do check back for updates in case the weather is not favorable ex: snow, rain, blistering winds and super cold. (below 35 with little chance of rising)

NOTE:  This ride starts at 10:30AM

Once again it was a great ride with great people and I am very impressed with the number of riders and new faces!! I was talking with some of the other riders about riding in the draft and then finding yourself pulling the group. Here are some tips I have learned over the years.
    1. Pull for as long or as short as you feel comfortable
    2. Do not that you have to pull at all especially if your riding with a faster group then usual. It is perfectly fine to just draft as this will make you a faster rider as time goes by.
    3. The draft is your friend, the 2nd person is doing 20% less work and the 3rd and behind are doing 33% less work. If you are uncomfortable riding with in 12 inches or less I urge you to practice with someone it will make you a better rider.
    4. I am going to add this to the discussions forum.

Good idea Bill. It's not that hard but it does take practice. Another signal is the "pull off into the wind and flick your elbow". This works when your uncomfortable letting go of the bars.

This is great advice guys. I am all for learning the finer points of this technique. My learning curve is still on the way up. I appreciate any tips you can give.

This was a great ride, despite the chilly weather. Nice route, lots of scenery, some climbing, but not too hard. Super organized!

Awesome ride and with a friendly group of people. But has there ever been a bad ride hosted by this group? I think not! It's was great to see so many people brave the chillier temps. Hopefully this is a sign that more people are willing to do winter rides. Looking forward to riding with everybody again soon.

It couldn't have been better. Great way to spend a couple of hours on a bright winter's day. It's always more fun to ride with a group of friendly people than by oneself.

Since we have 2 rides starting from the same location and good size groups for both...just in case the school parking area where we normally park is full, there is a large parking lot that is next to the school that you would access from Lewisville Clemmons Rd.
