Project Night if Nothing Better Comes Up :)

  • October 9, 2013 · 7:00 PM

We'll definitely meet on this day even if nothing happens but hacking on our projects together.

If you've got a project you're working on, leave it in the comments so that other people can come prepared to hack with you!

See you all there in a little bit. I'm working through the Clojure Koans, so that's my current project :)

My car is not out of the shop yet ... is there a good public transport option from Center City?

    October 9, 2013

    • Tim V.

      Right you are! :)

So it is! I may be able to make it after all. Will depend on timing.

  • Vick A.

Sorry, something has come up and I won't be able to make it to this month's meeting. :-(

  • Mike

I don't think I'll be able to make it tomorrow. Sorry for the late notice. I hope someone else can take the spot.

    Tim, congratulations on the baby!

  • Tim V.

The new baby's here! Rhythm Noel Visher. Everyone's doing well but I don't think I'm going to be able to make the meetup. :(

It's still on, I just won't be there.

Anyone willing to pair or triple off with Chirag?

    October 6, 2013

  • Chirag D.

Recent clojure convert, I am still trying to "get to know the language". My project will be most likely a small clojure exercise or koans.

Also, anyone who's willing to become part of the PHLClojure github organization or is already a member, we could potentially drum up more interest if we publish hack night projects on that group's site.

We maybe should change it's name to Clojadelphia given that the Meetup's name changed. :)

If I do end up coming, I've got two projects.

    1. [bible-plan][]. A clojurescript application intending to be a way to generate a custom bible reading plan. Currently, I'm working on getting the compile times down, because it's taking 50 minutes to build the project. I'm using Austin, Clojurescript, Ring/Compojure, Dommy. I'm working on a little cljs-time library along side of it, since the project needs to do quite a bit of simple date arithmetic. I'm automating deployment using bash and the platform is s3.

    2. Vagrant/AMI/??? swarm coding image. Not much progress at all has been made on this and it's more ancillary to Clojure itself. But I might work on it nonetheless as several of the people showing up have good brains to pick on the subject. :)

That's awesome Tim, congrats! Also, thanks for the warm welcome on my profile page. I'd be interested to participate in Dustin's idea about reactJS, failing that, there's a small web app I'd like to hack together to get better acquainted with Ring, Compojure, and Friend.

Also, my wife and I are planning on inducing at some point today, so with a brand new baby next week I may not be able to make it. :\

    I'll keep everyone posted!

  • Tim V.

A reminder (thanks Dustin!) to post your project ideas here so people can come prepared to hack together and we don't loose a bunch of time pairing off. If your project is simply 'get to know the language', point that out here too because someone should be able to pair up with you and maybe go through some Euler problems or summat just to get you bootstrapped.

project idea: ClojureScript bindings for ReactJS, Facebook's functional approach to managing the DOM. This mailing list thread provides a starting point: https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups=#!topic/reactjs/qU1xqO_7ARc

Is the list actually capped at 10?

    October 3, 2013

    • Ken R.

I was wondering about the capped list too. I'd like to attend, but 10 people seems like an awfully small meetup size. Is this a room constraint?

      October 3, 2013

    • Tim V.

Yes. This is primarily a venue constraint. Relay can fit about 20 people max for an eyes forward event but for a project night, about 10 seems to be a good number.

Recent clojure convert, looking to meet other folks who've seen the light + have likely seen it more clearly than I.

    September 27, 2013

  • Lionel G.

I've recently gotten really interested in Clojure, so I am really looking forward to the chance to connect with others who are into Clojure and functional programming.

  • Tim V.

I just realized this is _awfully_ close to our due date so there's a good chance I won't be able to make this night. Anyone else want to step up as the de facto coordinator for this event? All that would mean is coordinating with Relay to make sure the night still works for them and making sure that Kyle (or whoever our point of contact with Relay for Pizza is for that night) knows the head count when the date gets close.

Of course if you wanted to get more creative and try to find a speaker of some kind I don't know how many people would complain. ;)

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
