Visualization Driven Development in Clojure

We are not at the pinnacle of computing. The way we program today is not as good as it gets.  Clojure is better for software development than most other programming languages but we can still do better. Jason Gilman will present how we can improve our ability to understand and see code execution through Visualization Driven Development (VDD). He'll cover the newly released library, VDD Core, which allows VDD in Clojure.

VDD Core provides functions to capture code execution data, push data to a web browser, and  some visualization utilities to help build a visualization of the code execution. Jason will explain why we need to bring data visualizations to software development, a process for visualization design, and show how to connect the pieces with VDD Core.

For more information see the blog post announcing VDD Core, the VDD Core Wiki, and the example projects.

Thanks to everyone who came out last night. I'm sorry if there was any trouble getting in the door. I'd really love to hear if anyone puts some of the ideas that I presented to use. Send me an email (jason <at> element84.com) or contact on twitter @jasongilman. Would love feedback on what works, what doesn't work, how hard is it to build a visualization, and how useful (or not) you find the visualizations.

Thanks for putting the meetup together! It was a great talk and the Datomic education from Craig was equally enlightening. Hope too see everyone again sometime!

Sorry, all, I won't be able to make it. I stayed later at work, and the traffic's pretty bad.

I saw Jason's presentation at Strange Loop. It was quite good! You should all come and see what he has to say.

I was trying hard to make it, but I'm waiting for a support callback for a critical server issue. I could watch a video if you guys happen to be streaming it. But I kind of need to be here at the office for a while longer. :(

I''ll be driving there from Reston, assuming the traffic's not too awful. If I have room in my car (I've invited some folks from work), anyone's welcome to join me. Is there food at these meetups, or should I get something before the meeting?

I've never had a problem at that time of night.

You have to pay for parking before 6pm (< $1). I've shown up late in the past, which led to free parking, but I had to look longer for a park. However, I've never needed to walk further than one block.

What is parking like in the area?

I was looking to go to this meeting, yet something came up at the last time, and I can't make it. Jason, do you have slides on this one? This is the one topic that could lead to the adoption of clojure at work.
