jclouds, Whirr and CloudStack - the Apache Java Cloud Projects Play Together!

Andrew Bayer is the build and dev tools architect at Cloudera. He's been a major contributor to Jenkins, the leading CI server, and in the last couple years has become very involved with cloud API work. He's currently serving as VP, Apache Whirr, is one of the PPMC members for the Apache jclouds incubating project, and has done extensive internal tooling using Whirr and jclouds on top of CloudStack.

Title: jclouds, Whirr and CloudStack - the Apache Java cloud projects play together!

Description: CloudStack isn't the only cloud-related project at Apache - it's not even the only Java-based one! jclouds, the JVM library for interacting with and abstracting a multitude of cloud APIs and providers, joined the Incubator this spring, and Whirr, a library and CLI tool for provisioning, configuring and running complicated distributed systems across multiple hosts, has been in Apache for a few years, and itself uses jclouds! So how can you use jclouds and Whirr with CloudStack? I'll show you some examples, and I'll answer your questions about how the projects relate to each other.

Thank you to SAP Labs and CumuLogic for sponsoring the third CloudStack meetup!

Pizza and refreshments will be provided by SAP Labs.

Has anyone used the jclouds object store API with Ceph? I don't see Ceph supported natively, but it seems like jclouds could use the Swift API to talk to Ceph?

Thank you all for attending this meetup. The slides to Andrew Bayer's presentation are available here: Our next meetup will be in October (hopefully). We still need to find a venue to host the next one :)

The session was great and it was great to learn about jcloud: maybe
I would have liked a bit more tech depth, maybe some snippet of code, design/deployment details, practical 'top tips' about how to go about using jcloud in practice.

This was highly relevant for me: as our SaaS *must* target all major cloud flavors, to learn about a cross-platform abstraction layer was really useful and I expect we'll make good use of it!

Hi all, running the SAP alliance and the Cloud Platform Ecosystem for Citrix I am of course more than excited to see this CloudStack Meetup taking place at SAP Labs, the place where I used to work for long time before I joined Citrix three years ago and where I still work, now as partner manager :-), having the best of both worlds. I hope to see many of you at SAP on August 7.

    Best regards,

P.S.: If you are interested to learn about using CloudStack in an SAP environment please get in contact with me.
