As a former disaster relief expert and Community Economic Development specialist, I immediately appreciated the significance of the Benefit Corporation model that I learned about a few years ago as a member of Social Venture Network. Late in 2011, I developed a proposal for the board of directors of the cause-oriented companies we had been developing to incorporate Universal Stewardheirship, Inc. based on the Benefit Corporation model. As CEO and Chief StewardHeir, I have been leading the process of developing introductory programs, publications and an Investment Marketing Memorandum for Accredited Investors. I have also directed the process of incorporating several other Benefit Corporations that are partly owned by US, Incorporated and helping get them positioned to utilize the Crowd Funding provisions of the JOBS Act.
I have actually been involved in social entrepreneurship since the age of 21 when I established a Community Development Resource Center in 1969 to support desegregation of the public schools in the Mississippi Delta with an unsolicited grant from the American Friends Service Committee. Sine then I have founded or cofounded dozens of non-profit organizations and cause-oriented companies.
I coauthored a screen play at the age of 19 which was about an intentional community dedicated to fostering personal and planetary sustainability.
