Our February event takes place again at Capital Factory.

If you are new to this group and have a project in mind, or have already started a startup and need a co-founder, engineers, etc, - looking for your first angel, - or interested to join a startup, come join us for a great night of startup pitches, networking, good beer, wine and food.

Please make sure that you apply with your pitch deck early, as we are expecting to make some difficult choices between all the great pitch proposals.

February 2014 Meetup Venue: Capital Factory

How to get there:

On top of the Omni hotel on 8th and Brazos on the 16th floor in Austin downtown. You will find $5 garage parking across the Omni at Brazos, between 7th and 8th.

Formats:

1. You are an entrepreneur with a developed concept or a running startup pre VC round, looking for co-founders, talent, or investors.

2. You are a techie looking for your Startup (reverse pitch).

3. For February we want to try something new: a 60sec pitch for an idea to form a group developing an MVP testing that concept. You can pick people from the audience to be part of your group.

Why?

Because it is fun! and also pitching in our Meetup lets you "practice" your pitch and get feedback from other startups and investors, always a good thing!

How to attend in the audience?

Simply RSVP.

If you are a software or hardware developer, or UX/UI designer, or developer interested in joining a cool startup, you can attend for FREE. Just send an e-mail to [masked].

Otherwise, the contribution is $10 to cover for this non-profit event. Drinks and food provided.

How to apply as a presenter?

The deadline to send your pitch deck is Monday, February 3rd, 2014:

1. Who are you?
2. What is your business?
3. Why does it matter?
4. What is your business or revenue/traction model?
5. What are you asking for?

The presentations are limited to strictly three slides, plus one cover slide with your logo, and a final slide with your contacts. Remember that you'll only have max 4 minutes to present.

NEW: To maximize screen space during presentations and avoid formatting issues, please submit only Powerpoint slides in 16:9 format. You can change from classic 6:4 format under Page Setup.

If you are interested in doing a reverse pitch or a 60s pitch, please email us and we send instructions.

When is this not the right event for you?

If you plan to attend to sell something, this is not the right event for you.

Agenda:

6:30 - 7:00pm Sign-in and socializing

7:00 - 7:05pm Announcements, Sponsor notes

7:05 - 8:15pm Pitches  / Q&A (around 10)

8:15 - 9:30pm Network, Network, Network

Please RSVP as space is limited!

We are proud to be able to serve the Austin entrepreneurial community since 2010. Thank you for your ongoing support.

We will be doing two SXSW events, a badged event and an unbadged event. The badged event will be about how to build a successful meetup group.

http://schedule.sxsw.com/2014/events/event_IAP25100

The unbadged event will be our regular pitch event format at Capital Factory, to be announced here.

Want to support this group? reach out to us at [masked] for sponsorship opportunities!

All Good. But, I felt sorry for the presenters who had to endure the audio and video problems tonight. You should get that stuff straightened out beforehand -- it really throws the presenters off.

Well, the formatting is a common issue. We standardized on PP 16:9. Many people use GoogleApps or other online apps and conversion errors appear. If I notice formatting errors, and they are easy to fix, I do it the evening I put the slidedeck together. If I see bigger once I let the presenter know immediately usually when I get their slides. More important than the quality of the slidedeck for me is the idea and how viable the team believes the business model could be. All taken into account that our forum is early stage startups, not those who already received 5 or 6 figure funds and ran through an incubator. That is by design.

Sounds like you all have it covered. Thanks for caring and working so hard to make this group a success. I really like the supportive nature of the entire meetup.

    Technical issues. Weak pitches.

    February 10, 2014

    • Stefan B.

Whereas we had let serial entrepreneurs in the past pitching simply an idea, we normally put lots of emphasize on the viability of the foundation, the business model. Passion alone is not enough, you also have to do your homework, if you want to pitch. There is lots of work those presenters put upfront which might not be readily visible during a presentation.

Cowardly and pathetic of you to say that Jay Ehret, especially with no identification of yourself. There's no room in these peoples lives for your lack of support and unwillingness to offer help when there's a technical issue, so I trust that the organizers will remove you from this group.

The tsunami of start up juice was a pleasure to behold.

Thanks, Stefan and Raquel for organizing, and thanks Capital Factory for hosting!

Really enjoyed the energy and enthusiasm of the crowd and audience, and had some great conversations. Looking forward to the next one!

A room full of talent, potential, and people who want to put it to use passionately. This is where world change starts. We're all quite lucky.

    4 · February 11, 2014

    • Stefan B.

Mel, thank you for your kind words you have for the presenters and the audience. The purpose of this group is to encourage people and overcome the threshold from dreaming of doing a startup to actually doing it.

      February 11, 2014

    • Stefan B.

And by coming here, you have done the first step, be presenting, you have done the second step and can call yourself a true entrepreneur.

It was a good Meetup, a few technical issues but that is life. I got to meet some amazing people and network. This is a good Meetup if you want to practice your pitch.

Nice, I have been bouncing between Berlin and London for most parts of December.

Sounds really exciting. I cannot attend as i am away. I am looking to jv or co start a venture. My background is business development and funding across several industries. Currently based in Australia and shuttle between China / Singapore. Making a permanent move to Austin later part of this year. I would like to get in touch with people looking for co founders. Open to any venture with potential.

Re Your thoughts, my humble opinion is that you might want to consider going through companies with their HQ set up in America. This will make it easier for the flow down effect. American companies are generally ahead in using such tools. Hence a better acceptance rate and lower operating cost for you. I am more than happy to give my insights if you think it is relevant.

Ronnie - I appreciate your remarks -when you get to Austin and start going to these events look for me - and/or connect with me via LinkedIn/Email: misc-mikewest.com will take you to my linkedin, which will consequently also give you more information about my business.

Find out where they are today! I would like to start digging through the list of our past presenters and find out what happened to them. I think we had quiet a few people here who made it into VC rounds. We had about 150 startups presenting since 2010. There are definitely some interesting stories waiting to be told. If you want to help finding out and blogging about it, please let us know: [masked]

  • Stefan B.

We are also looking for some volunteers again. If you want to help to set up the event, be at the reception, or help Cofounders get oriented send me a message: [masked].

Jonathan, we need help with setting up, putting the beer in the cooler and stuff - the fun things.

      January 30, 2014

And of course somebody who can take a few pictures to post with the event.
