Co-Founders Wanted of DC Metro area Meetup

Connect with fellow entrepreneurs - possibly one that rounds you out and can help launch your startup or you may find a venture which you want to be a part of. Dust of that business idea, find a qualified partner to launch.

Help grow this group with as many entrepreneurs, tell your friends, and bring your optimism and fresh ideas. Networking will begin after a round of brief introductions where you share with the group what you are looking for in your co-founder or if you don't have a business idea then tell us what type of company you are looking to join and what skills you bring to the partnership.

So far, it's been a positive experience.

@David Rees to keep the quality of the format of the meetups and limitations on space we chose to have multiple groups. Also when we first started the group people were crossing into MD and asked if we could host one that was close to them in N. VA. there was enough people and we had a good venue.

Out of interest, why is NoVa a separate group? With only 91 folks it seems like it would work better to just have it in the Metro DC group. Vienna isn't any closer to DC than Rockville (and really it's closer driving-wise for most).

0 for 2 so far... Conflict with DC Tech Week event this time. Hope to make it next time.

@Jeff Strigel. We factor that some will not show into our capacity. People will update their status by tonight, just keep an eye on it tomorrow morning to see if you get bumped up. Another option is to see if there's an event which has room that may not be too far to travel. You can see all our events here http://cofounderslab.meetup.com/

Id like to attend tonight, but seems im last on waiting list :-) Can I just show up and assume by the law of numbers that one of the 65 won't make it? I have two startups im working on and a few other ideas. looking to connect with investors. We have a strong team of 3 at the moment.

Indeed, I'd like to attend the keynote. It's also great if we could meet before in a nearby location like Ryan suggests at the City Club. I'll give my seat in Rockville to another attendee. Also, my business startup is internet marketing and advertising, so any successful internet entrepreneurs are people I would like to meet and talk with.

I'll be at the DCWeek keynote 11/9 and would like to host a quick intro meeting that day at 6:15pm at the City Club, a private club nextdoor to Warner Theater. I have a limit of 5 guests, so please message me through the CoFoundersLab.com site to make arrangements. I'm in learning mode and I'm interested in meeting technical co-founders (programmers) and others with social media startup experience.

Perfect. Will plan to attend the Nov. 17th No. VA event.

  • Laura Allender F.

Shahab I've signed up for the Nova event, but I would still be happy to meet folks this week before the keynote. Thank you for all you do!

  • Shahab K.

If you can't make it to Rockville because it's full or conflict with DCWeek, you can consider the same co-founder matching we do in N. VA Nov. 17 http://www.meetup.com/Co-Founders-Wanted-on-Northern-VA/

I'd encourage everyone to attend the co-founders wanted event. I attended the last one and it was excellent, and I definitely intend to attend the next one if possible. What I'm proposing is not in any way a replacement, but just a spontaneous meetup for people who can't make this, and for anyone who just wants to connect with others who are interested to be involved in startups. Will keep you all posted on whether or not it's happening and if so on the when and where. -Sherif

Same here. I changed my rsvp in order to attend the keynotes. An ad hoc get-together might happen for entrepreneurs looking to connect with each other (not associated with co-founders lab and probably will be much smaller and not that organized - just spontaneous), and we might potentially have access to a space in the city sometime during DC week itself. It just sprung out of a comment I posted on DCWEEK's FB group.

The DCWeek Schedule is here http://dcweek2011.sched.org/. Would anyone else be interested in having a meetup at a restaurant near the keynotes at about 5pm?

I did not know that this event is at the same time with DCweek Keynotes. I just changed my RSVP though I wish I could attend both.

  • Laura Allender F.

I changed my RSVP too. I'd love to have an alternate meetup downtown does anyone have a space we can use?

I cancelled for the same reason, there are too many people I want to reconnect with going to the DCWeek Keynotes for me to skip it. Next week would be much better for me, and it would be a great chance to recap on DCWeek also.

    November 7, 2011

  • Shahab K.

@Ryan, we just increase the number of attendees we can take, by making some configuration to the space. By tomorrow I expect some folks to change their status so waiting list should start to move.

I'd be down for an alternative meeting. I'm making my spot available now in favor of attending the keynotes at DCWEEK. It only happens once a year...

    November 7, 2011

  • Laura Allender F.

I concur that a time and location compatible with DCWeek would be preferable. Clearly we can't be in Rockville and at DCTech meetup at the same time. Does anyone want to have a meetup on Friday downtown or in Arlington?

any chance of setting up an alternative meeting space for those on the waitlist or breaking the meeting into two based on participant interest?

Healthcare IT. I have a few ideas for untapped markets. I lead operations for one of world?s most respected application services company and built up a startup. I am responsible for and have experience in virtually all verticals, though from all that is hot and close to my heart healthcare stands out. Co-founding a services and products company based on global delivery is on the list for me.

Startup about to market launch, most product risk behind us, new social network designed to facilitate meeting new people rather than simply connecting to those you already know. It's a key aspect of "social" missed until now. Massive upside potential.

Seeking technical devs to join founding team. Stack is JavaEE, JBoss app server, JBoss RichFaces, and MySQL in AWS environment. Front end dev ideal. Looking to disrupt a $4B industry, well positioned to achieve this very thing.

@Shahab, It seems to me there are two different dimensions being overlapped here. The 1st is the vertical - health, fashion, hospitality. The 2nd is the service type - B2B, B2C, social media, mobile, social commerce. Depending on what skills you are looking to augment, either may be important. And a 3rd dimension would be technologies if someone is looking to expand there - web client (html/js/jquery), server (ruby/php), etc.

How about: platforms for authors to run online book clubs/classes. (Perhaps that's too specific)
    Let's go with Social commerce

Thanks everyone, I've captured most of the industries you've mentioned into the product. I hope to continue to make the development of the site/service as collaborative as possible.

Might be interested in discussing some ideas in image/signal processing and analysis (non-medical) as well as medical diagnostics and medical imaging.

What industry is your Startup idea in?
When we release the free online matching service next week, we'll have a drop down of industries to choose from to narrow your search. What industry label would you use to describe the industry your Startup is in. i.e. social media, mobile business apps, renewable energy, etc. Please email me with your suggestions.

Hi, I know of a couple people who like to go to both. Bummer. However we are somewhat limited on dates due to my schedule, our venue host, and the holiday. Thanks for pointing this out though.

This is the same day as DCTech, which is huge & was scheduled awhile ago. I assume most of your audience will want to attend DCTech also?
