Let's try this one again everyone, fingers crossed for sunshine!!

On Saturday 28th June we’ll be following the Green Chain walk from Beckenham to Chislehurst. This time it's more conversations than cocktails but there will hopefully be some gorgeous weather and there is the possibility of half a shandy after all the walking!

The Walk and Lunch:

The route is a pleasant 5 miles, and takes in parks and residential streets, via pavements and rough tracks. The walk should take about two and half hours. Sensible footwear is required; in summer trainers will be fine. Please bring a bottle of water with you as it will be difficult to find refreshments on the tour.

The route will be section 9, Beckenham Place Park to Chislehurst. (Link: http://beta.greenchain.com/info/5/walking/2/green_chain_walk-sections/9).

At the end of the walk, for those that wish to, we will have lunch in the Queen’s Head, Chislehurst: http://www.emberinns.co.uk/the-queens-head-chislehurst/food/.

Meet At: Beckenham Place Park main car park (near the Cafe/Golf Club), 10:30am Saturday 28th June. Information on how to get there: http://www.beckenhamplaceparkfriends.org.uk/getthere.htm, and links to Google Maps:

Streetview: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.418779,-0.018983,3a,90y,88.02h,70.7t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1sWuQV5T1YcAento9ltDJ7hQ!2e0
Map: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.419231,-0.0176138,16z Return Transport:

Transport back to Beckenham will be via the 162 bus (http://www.tfl.gov.uk/bus/route/162/). This bus also travels via Chislehurst & Bickley Stations, and the centre of Bromley.

Other Important Notes:

We won’t be walking fast, but you should have a reasonable level of fitness to participate. Please note by taking part you agree this is entirely at your own risk.

We will check the weather and confirm via Meetup on the evening of Friday 27th June that the walk is going ahead – please remember to check Meetup for the latest details. If the walk doesn’t go ahead due to bad weather, details on an alternative plan will be provided – likely to involve a coffee and cake morning in the centre of Beckenham.

Despite what can only be described as a flash flood at the start of the walk, it turned out to be a really cool meetup. Ed did a great job organising the meet and leading us through what was a very scenic route. The group were very welcoming to the newbies, there was good banter throughout the walk and it ended with a much needed pub lunch in Chislehurst. Hope to see you all soon!!

    Hi guys

Thanks for a great day. Even after the ominous start (thunder clouds rolling in) and barely avoiding trench foot (schoolboy error not bringing as spare pair of socks) it turned out to be a very enjoyable day.

Oh, and, it was ‘Good to see you’ all and I’m looking forward to the next meetup. ... for those present, I’m apologising in advance as my eyes are being drawn to the big red buttons... ;)

Hi Ed, I managed to get to the correct car park but must have just missed you as I got there about 11am too. Had to hide in the trees for the heavy rain to die down. Hope to see you guys at a future meetup. Glad you enjoyed the walk.

Thanks for the reply Lai, we look forward to welcoming you to a future Meetup! Hopefully the weather will be fine for our next event.

Ed! I'm confused about where we are meeting! I only know the entrance at ravensbourne train station, can you give me a road name the main entrance is on please? See you later!

      Hi Sophie,

The main entrance is off Beckenham Hill Road. If you check the event description there should be a Google Maps link which shows the meeting point. Post back if you're still stuck, otherwise see you later,

A quick note to confirm tomorrow's walk will be going ahead as planned.

    Hi everyone,

At present, I'm intending that the walk will go ahead as planned this Saturday. However, I'm monitoring the weather forecast. Please check back here tomorrow night for final confirmation.

If the walk doesn't take place, we will run another coffee morning so there will still be a meetup.

Thanks to those that replied about lunch. As there are only three confirmed for lunch I won't place a booking on this occasion.

    Thanks,
    Ed

    Hi everyone,

Great to see so many people can make the walk on Saturday (28 June)!

As we have plenty of attendees, I'll book a table for the lunch (which follows the walk). Please comment below **by midday on Wednesday (25 June)** to let me know if you wish to attend the lunch or not.

(If you forget/don't see this message/change your mind on the day, we'll try and get extra chairs, but an idea of numbers would be great).

I will have a small 'Meetup' flag with me at the meeting point on Saturday, so it'll be easy to spot the group!

Don't forget to visit the event page on the evening of Friday (27 June), when I'll have checked the weather and will confirm the walk is going ahead. (I'll also send those who have RSVP'ed 'Yes' an email).

All the rest of the details should be on the event page, but if you have any questions, do get in touch.

    Look forward to seeing you,
    Ed

if you're getting the 54 its the stop after the catholic church and pedestrian traffic lights!

ok so if you're coming by train beckenham hill station is the nearest its about a 5 minute walk going by google maps ( dont know what line its on) .head for blacklands road, you will turn right onto it, potter along, take next right onto beckenham hill road.just a short walk you will see entrance to park, stroll down the "drive way" till you see a car park and a building with large pillars. that's where i'll be! hope its the right place! it can be hard if you don't know an area . hope this helps. if you go to beckenham junction station/tram stop you can get a 54 bus just round the corner that stops just after the park opening on beckenem hill road. if you see peter pan pond/homebase you have gone too far just about turn and you will be fine . i hope this helps xx
