These are great suggestions! This leads me to think that cocoaheads Denver should be less like the normal 'attend and listen to a talk' meetup and more like 'a framework study group' type group. Each month, we have a group leader that leads the discussion. We have several topics in the queue now with afnetworking, rest kit and gcd. Seeing as Brian volunteered to lead us on an exercise with programming spheros, I thought we could all check out the sphero sdk on GitHub (https://github.com/orbotix/Sphero-iOS-SDK) and prepare questions about how or why things are done, and what you like or dislike about the overall approach. I think this will help us all be better developers by examining other peoples code in a group setting. What do you think?

I will be in contact with Sphero Rangers support team to (hopefully) supply balls for the November meeting. While I still need to plan the presentation, Saul mentioned getting a head start by taking a look at the SDK. Also visit the Dev Center https://developer.gosp.... I will likely cherry pick some interesting uses for programming Sphero and post material prior to the meeting. Plan on bringing your Macbook and of course your iOS device - this will be mostly a lab style, high participation, format. See you next month!

Future topics look very interesting and helpful. I've love to show how I setup AFNetworking to handle OAuth2 with my Rails API if it's of interest.

That sounds like a great idea Wes.

Cool. I'd create a simple demo using Rails and AFNetworking+AFOAuth2Client, and show how to create a Singleton for client interaction with a 3rd party service (EG, Twitter).

I'd be interested in going through some of the rameworks, like some of the changes with the new version of OpenGL, maybe even go through some Grand Central Dispatch stuff.

    definitely recommend AFNetworking over RestKit

I was thinking we could also talking about the differences between UI development on os x vs iOS such as view lifecycle, structuring, building, and showing views.

Good meetup. In the future I'd love to see a presentation on RestKit. I tried and failed to get it to work for me... but it seems everyone is using it. Also, an overview of the libraries every developer should have in their tookbox (probably stuff like cocoapods, AFNetworking, JSONKit, etc)

The talks covered some good material. It might have been nice to show a small demonstration of Magic Record in action though.

    October 8, 2013

    • Saul M.

The magical record section wasn't planned to far in advance, but I'll keep it mind for next time. But I also want to encourage others to present code for sharing

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
