Weekly Hack Night

This week, our weekly work session will be at Factory 63 in Fort Point, as one of the highlighted events of Idea Week Boston.

We'll take a few minutes to go over current projects, and the Manager of Ops Technology with the MBTA will be pitching some transit project ideas. We'll then have the rest of the time to hack.

By public transit: take the Red Line to South Station, then walk (6-10 mins) to 63 Melcher St, which branches to the right off Summer St.

Parking: There is paid parking at Channelside Parking, 284 A Street, Boston, but enter the lot at 29-41 Necco St. After 5 pm, there is a flat rate of $6.00 for evening parking.

I know, my apologies. This session was somewhat atypical because we had so many presentations. We're usually through that "intro" section in about 30 mins.

Hi! A group of us from the Harvard School of Public Health are working on redesigning child health records as part of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation's Records for Life contest (http://bit.ly/15BQe8S). We're looking for a designer (perhaps an industrial designer?) to join our team of doctors and researchers to help us think through the physical dimensions of our potential submission. Please message me if you're interested!

Hi Caitlin. We're primarily a development-focused group, although we have a number of designers in attendance (myself included). I would definitely reach out to UXPA Boston (http://uxpaboston.org...) and IxDA Boston (http://www.ixda.org/l...), two of the larger design-focused professional groups in the area, to see if their membership would be interested.

Nice to meet you all tonight. Here are some things I mentioned to people:

    Cambridge City tree map:

I heard about the map on through the Cambridge E-Line newsletter:

Is there a list of the "current projects" somewhere?

Hi Tom - Take a look at our Github for an idea on projects in development: https://github.com/cod...

Thanks for the pointer. Interesting to see that you cloned our BostonGreen project. First I've heard of it! I'm not sure I'll make it tonight, but I'll have a rummage through the projects to see what else is there.

Can't make it this week. Does anyone work on projects outside of the meetup? I can't always make Tuesday nights, but I would be down to collaborate outside of hacknight.

That does happen occasionally! I would definitely encourage all project teams to meet when it's convenient for them - the hack night is just to make sure we have a consistent meeting time each week.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to make it tonight :-/

Just found out that I have to fly to San Francisco tonight. Bummer. Definitely going to be there some Tuesday soon.

Also, there's some meter parking along both Summer St and nearby Congress St. I've rarely had a problem finding space during the week - except for that one time there was an O.A.R. concert at Harbor Lights. That was a disaster.
