For anyone interested in space, satellites, mapping, and other cool stuff, we're having a special guest at Hack Night tomorrow evening: Will Marshall, Co-founder of Planet Labs.
Planet Labs is "a purpose-driven space and analytics company. Founded in 2010, the company’s goal is to provide universal access to information about the changing planet. We will operate the world’s largest fleet of Earth imaging satellites to frequently image the entire planet and provide open access to that information." More: http://planet-labs.co...
They already have several live satellites in space sending back images, and are launching a whole fleet in early 2014. At Hack Nighttomorrow Will is going to share an overview of what we are doing and then have an open discussion about what they could do with the satellite data they're producing. We will hopefully have some test data to play with.
Will's bio: Will is responsible for setting the company’s vision and and for architecting the company strategy. Previously, Will was a Scientist at NASA/USRA where he served as Co-Investigator for PhoneSat, Science Team member on the LCROSS and LADEE lunar missions. He led research projects in orbital space debris remediation. Will has published over 30 articles in scientific publications. Will received his Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Oxford and was a Postdoctoral Fellow at Harvard University.
