Learn about Open Street Map and editing OSM with iD.

Open Street Map is like a Wikipedia for maps. At this meetup Clifford Snow will lead a workshop that goes over the basics of Open Street Map and how to make edits to the map using the iD map editor.

Visit openstreetmap.org, and to learn more about iD, edit the map on openstreetmap.org: http://www.openstreetmap.org/edit#map=16/[masked]/[masked]

Part I of promised info on getting USGS topo maps in geopdf format converted to geotiff, so they can be used as imagery in JOSM. (Too long for post length limit.)

Start here to find a GDAL installer for your OS:
    http://trac.osgeo.org/gdal/wiki/DownloadingGdalBinaries
    For Windows, recommend:
    http://www.gisinternals.com/sdk/
Look for the highest numbered release version, i.e. release-NNNN..., either 64-bit or 32-bit as appropriate. Click that link to go to the list of packages. Get the "core components" installer. Add the GDAL installation directory to your Path (ask if you haven't done this before).

Additionally, you can get the DLG (Digital Line Graph) files used to generate the quad images DRG (Digital Rastr Graphic) at for various feature layers at EarthExplorer ( http://earthexplorer.... ). See http://photos3.meetup... qGIS actually slurped up the DLG files directly as a vector layer.

Pat, the USGS Topographic Maps, Black & White Ortho Image (DOQ), and Color Ortho Image (Urban Area) are also available via MSRmaps at http://msrmaps.com/cm... These are also available as a background web service in JOSM ( http://josm.openstree... )

If you're late and the door is locked call me at 360.850.9700.

We'll be in the board room on the first floor. Go into the first floor workspace, past the big event that's happening in the main space, and into the conference room at the back left corner.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
