I was thinking it could be fun to do some little demos about security as an evening event. I could show people how to use PGP to encrypt email for example. someone else could demo using VPN, yadda, yadda. Anyone else interested in presenting? We could do it mid-july. keep the presentations around 10-15 minutes and have 3-4 of them.

Interesting idea, but it appears the aim is more at privacy online than security - please correct me if I misunderstand.

My impression is that, for many people, personal security and personal privacy are closely linked.

Perhaps this would be a good opportunity to make the distinction, as no amount of privacy-protection measures will help if you have a wider security problem.

I'd be interested in such a meetup. I think it is appropriate in regards to PRISM because encryption is the real form of digital privacy.

I could adapt my Diffie-Hellman slides to explain a bit about how public key crypto and certificates work, but that might be too much about low-level details for this; not sure what you had in mind.

If there's still interest, I can offer some 10-15 minutes on Secure Development.
