SHOUT! - Poetry Open Mic

Come share your poetic voice and talents in a great locale in Uptown Whittier every 2nd Wednesday night of the month.

The location is Half Off Books (formerly the Little Old Bookstore), and SHOUT! is hosted by Eric Morago.

Eric is a 2010 Pushcart Prize nominee and holds an MFA from California State University, Long Beach. He believes performance carries as much importance on the page as it does off. He has performed all over California and in New York, has been a member of and has coached poetry slam teams galore, and hosts SHOUT! the open mic in Uptown Whittier at Half Off Books.

SHOUT! is a recurring poetry open mic that takes place the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 7:30pm. A free event, and has developed quite a following, so get there early to ensure you read before 9:30pm, unless you want to be one of those moonlight poets that helps shut the spot down around 12pm. Also, due to the occurrence of the Uptown Street Fair from April-Oct, parking will be difficult, but not impossible.

Hope to see you there!

Being invited was one thing... The venue... OMG, as a writer, I was welcomed with open arms and immediately invited back based on what I read... I will most certainly return. Thank you again for including me...

I am so grateful to be included in such a wonderful group of writers. I have been writing poetry for 30 years this September and sharing it for 15 of those years next month. No matter how many time life got in my way, I knew that I had to write. I have developed a style of my own in the classical sense over the years, and no matter the trends of poetry through time, I have held true too what comes from my heart.

I am looking forward to this evening, I can think of no other place I would rather be, and I am excited to see you all there...

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
