Writer's Shop Talk @ Rick's Zoo

Hi Everyone,

Cherisse will be our guest speaker this Friday (Jan 11) at the Writers Shop Talk. Here is the topic:

"Regardless of whether you write nonfiction, short stories, poems, or novels, when you are finally ready to start submitting your work to be considered for the publication process, you will be asked to write a cover letter to send in along with your manuscript. And while it is your creative writing that most needs to stand up to the scrutiny of any acquisitions editor, the first thing that most editors will see is the cover letter you submit with your work. In this shop-talk, we will go over each element of the cover letter, the do's and don'ts, as well how to craft your author bio."

If time permits, we will also be doing a written assignment: actually writing a cover letter for one of your finished pieces. Look forward to seeing you at Rick's house next Friday (6:00).

Excellent presentation. Shop Talk is always a worthy investment of my time and this was no exception. We are fortunate to have folks with talent who are willing to share with the rest of us. Cherisse and Eric gave two very different views of the publishing world, and both were very helpful.

This writers work shop was my very first writers meeting ever, and I have to say it was well worth the trip. Everyone was extremely friendly, the presentation was invaluably informative, and the atmosphere was such that anyone could ask questions unimpeded, allowing for a more personalized dialogue to flow back and forth between the presenter and the group at large.

This was a terrific presentation, not too long yet chock full of valuable information, tips and insights from a publishing industry professional. Writer's Shop Talk Meet-Ups are an especially good way for people to check out the Coffee House Writer's Group if you haven't yet attended one of the Meet-Ups.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
