--- Hooks ---
For most readers, if they are not involved in the story after the first few pages, then it’s probably a no-sell. Many beginning writers become so concerned with introducing characters, describing the setting or building worlds, they forget that their first obligation is to engage the reader. So how do you, the writer, capture a reader’s attention right from the get go? That will be the subject of our next writer’s workshop: how do I create an effective hook?
Assignment: In a maximum of two pages, create a hook for a future novel or story you wish to write.
You may come up with your own prompt.
- Main Character has just been told he/she has cancer
- Main Character is having an affair, his wife & mistress are one in the same but he has no clue
- Start off with a bank robbery gone bad
START WRITING !!!
Hope to see you THERE !!
