Eid stage at London Mela

To mark the end of Ramadan and the holy month of fasting, the Mayor of London has teamed up with O2 London Mela to produce an Eid celebration stage at one of the city’s biggest free festivals.

This unmissable feast of South Asian culture celebrates turning ten this year.
With more than 300 performers and colourful floats, Mela's nine zones will be packed with contemporary, traditional and experimental music, DJs, street arts, comedy, food markets, children’s area, a giant funfair and much more.
The stages will feature a dazzling array of varied performances, including a top line-up from the UK and around the world and a classical concert featuring the Philharmonia Orchestra in collaboration with South Asian artists.

The hottest mixes and remixes from east to west to the dance floor, including king of Rai, Cheb Khaled and Missy Elliot, Chiekha Rimiti and Sean Paul, Fatman Scoop, Tarik Faruk and Busta Rhymes.
Abdullah Hamzah aka ‘Celt Islam’ is an English convert to Islam, Sufi and a member of UK dub/breaks outfits ‘Nine Invisibles’ and ‘Analogue Fakir’. Celt-Islam fuses dub/electro/drum and bass and mixes it with Islamic/world grooves to create a hypnotic dub driven dance crossover.
A performer, teacher and choreographer, Tara Ibrahim is a leading dance artist who has worked across the world. She is also the only female tanoura dancer in the UK and possibly Europe.
This event-within-an-event, which runs from 1.00pm - 6.45pm, will celebrate Eid ul Fitr, also due to fall on or around 19 August, and will delight the whole family, featuring live performances, activities and treats from across the world.
The line-up of performers includes Celt Islam, member of UK dub/breaks outfits ‘Nine Invisibles’ and ‘Analogue Fakir’, Tara Ibrahim the UK's only female tanoura dancer and Uustad Ali Hafeez Khan, performing his unique style of Qawaali.

From 6:45pm – 9:00pm the celebrations will continue at O2 London Mela, one of the city’s largest free festivals of South Asian culture.

Don’t miss out, as the O2 London Mela celebrates its tenth birthday in style!
The London Mela, Europe’s biggest celebration of Asian culture is taking place on Sunday 19 August at Gunnersbury Park. The day will feature over 400 performers across nine entertainment zones, including the Community Stage and Magic Mela kids zone, BBC Introducing Stage and BBC Asian Network Mix Tent plus outdoor arts, food and craft markets and a huge funfair.
The day will finish with a spectacular carnival, a first of its kind collaborative concert by the Philharmonia Orchestra and a fantastic firework finale. see you there
