Well the Plano group is "drinking" liberally ;) it's not a dining group. I do love their fish sandwiches and their Mac and cheese is great. But to each their own. Joanna, I'll see you soon at an atheist gathering . . . .

Thanks for the offer, but I'd rather not. Since Plano, McKinney and Dallas are taken care of, what would be left? I am not that into local politics; atheist groups are much more my style. Or were you just trying to tell me something. :)

I can see why consistency is a good thing. It is also quite boring. The food at the Rugby Club was inedible. It could be scheduled for election times and other times when you are expecting a crowd. The Pub in McKinney gave me claustrophobia and after spending 30 minutes to find a place to park I was frazzled.

the turnout has picked up since we switched to Friday nights. That spot up there in in bar area was too small last weekend but there have been months when it was way too large. I can certainly request a different spot in The Pub where everyone can sit more comfortably. I'm not inclined to change locations at this time though - we really do need consistency as Lynn said.
Jay, would either you or Joanna be interested in co-leading? My previous co-leader stepped down after the election and the organization wants each group to have a pair of leaders.

oh, I thought you were talking about the McKinney group.

I was talking about the McKinney group. I am sorry bu5t if that remains the monthly place, I probably won't attend. Horrible food, no call ahead to see if they can accommodate us. Too loud, no parking. Not my idea of a meetup.acco9mmod

Drinking Liberally is a national organization with chapters all around the country. It is requested that each chapter meet in the same place every month. Plano meets second Fridays at The Rugby House and has since May 2011. We will continue to meet there as sometimes we get over 30 people and that back room can accommodate that many and more. Last election season we probably had close to 75 people there for debate parties and at least that may on Election Day for a watch party.

Although last week's McKinney gathering was a bit crowded, I can understand Nancy's reluctance to change venues as there's no telling how many may show up each month. I will ask around to see if there's another McKinney restaurant that has a bigger space and better parking.

Since it is only once a month we could go to different restaurants every month. My suggestions are Greek Isles (Parker & 75), Mi Cocina (Preston), Red, Hot and Blue and others. I would be happy to research restaurants, call them and see if they can accommodate a large crowd and accept separate checks (and of course a full bar!). Of course, these restaurants are more expensive than a pub, but it's only once a month. I don't really know the McKinney restaurants, so would need ideas for that area.

I'm open to suggestions - we've talked about changing meeting places before.

I agree with Jay. We need to pick some nice restaurants which are quiet and can accommodate groups. Calling ahead and asking for tables (and separate checks) to be set up works great. However, you need to get people to RSVP for this. I don't care for pub fare and parking in that area is not acceptable.

Very nice people, think more work should go into getting an appropriate space within the venue.
