Sorry I had to miss the meeting last night but thought everyone would find this article interesting. Unfortunately, this is the kind of bad pub that the investment banking community will pump to show that crowd funding should be tightly regulated and IF private funding is allowed, it should be ONLY through their firms.

Great article, Steve!

I wonder why so many of the scams or failures that end up getting reported are on the Kickstarter platform???

Maybe it's because of the "hipster" quality of the platform? Maybe among the thousands upon thousands of honest and upright folks, it also tends to attract (more than, say, some of the other types of platforms, like Indiegogo, for example) a certain type of individual who because of their personalities tend to be slightly more prone than others to not honor their commitments?

I don't know. But stay tuned for our next meeting (currently scheduled for September 25th; we're off in August due to our membership's focus on family vacations and getting the kids back to school). We'll explore some of the downsides and negatives of Kickstarter (as we did with Indiegogo) which is something anyone contemplating a Kickstarter campaign in the future should know about before committing to such a campaign.

Thanks again for sharing this article with us.
