Sprite Night!

  • March 13, 2013 · 7:00 PM

There has been quite a bit of interest in a night dedicated to learning the ancient art of spriting. So here it is!

The "class" will be loosely taught by Jesse (creator of Wyv and Keep and SmashBox) and will feature the basic presentation of a topic relating to spriting followed by time to work and check out each others' sprites. We'll cover topics such as shape and form, shading, anti-aliasing, lighting, key frames, forces of movement, secondary animations, and much more. It will be a casual gathering as with most CiGDA meetings, and will focus on helping each other and learning together in a relaxed, stress-free setting.

Our first meeting will focus on getting acquainted with the spriting process, distinguishing a good sprite from a bad one, and creating a character for a simple platform game.

Novices and pros and everyone in between are welcome! Can't wait to see you all!

A bit on the simple side since I've already done some of this before, but it is just flat out awesome to see the local community coming together to learn from each other like this. I will definitely be attending future classes!

Had a good time, even though my laptop's busted so I couldn't do any work. Good to see everyone! I'll definitely be bringing something to work on next time.

Really good overview of spriting and techniques, as well as some hands on/peer review time.

Sorry if I took someone's spot, but work prevented me from coming. Hate I missed this.

I'm dropping out Patrick so go ahead and take my slot. I don't have a laptop plus I'm packing to move, so no worries.

oh sweet, I'll update my RSVP if I can make it (started cooking dinner)! I'm a programmer so I'm mostly curious (my programmer art looks better when it's at 32x32 than freehanded in paint), and I have a Surface to find an excuse to use.
