A Book and Brunch!

Let's get together to discuss a great book over coffee or a Sunday morning drink of your choice! The Hornet has $3 Mimosas and a $2 Bloody Mary bar. We'll discuss the book for an hour or so, and then have a yummy brunch. Bonus: There are gluten-free and vegetarian options available. (And we'll have separate checks.)

THE BOOK

Being an introvert group, it seems like the no-brainer choice for the first book should be, Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking. (Click on the title for the Amazon description.)

It's available in paperback and you should be able to find a used copy online or in Denver's great book stores. The Denver Public Library also has many copies (although they seem to have a waiting list), as well as e-copies for your e-reader.

THE DISCUSSION

Depending on the number of participants, we may break into two or three groups. I'll bring questions to lead the discussion, but bear in mind you won't have to talk much if you won't want to! As introverts, we will respect all levels of participation.

If you end up not reading the whole book, you should still attend. Heck, even if you haven't read more than the jacket cover but want the Cliffs Notes so you don't have to read it yourself, you can come to the meetup and absorb the wisdom of your fellow members.

THE LOCATION

The Hornet is just north of I-25 at Broadway/Lincoln. It's located at the southeast corner of 1st Ave. and Broadway. (If you know where Punch Bowl Social is, it's across the street from that.)

The Hornet has a small parking lot behind the restaurant, off 1st Ave. Otherwise, parking is on the street and is free all day on Sundays. (I confirmed this with the restaurant since the meters may not make this clear.) I've had good luck getting a spot right on Broadway, but I would build in some extra time as you might have to drive around just a bit.

We'll be in the private area off the main dining room and the host will point you in the right direction.

See you there!

I use "The Introvert Advantage: How to Thrive in an Extrovert World" as a everyday reference.

Very thoughtful conversations. It prompted me checking out another book, which might be good for future book club discussions.

It was written by Tal Ben Shahar-Phd, a self-proclaimed "shy introvert" and a professor at Harvard. The name of the book is "Happier - Learn the Secrets of Daily Joy and Lasting Fulfillment"

The foundation of his teachings are founded on "research", rather than the "self-help" movement. He talks about "accessible ideas, practical theories and simple techniques that work" vs "5 easy steps".

For some reason research-based and proven came to top of mind after the last book discussion:)

    Just an idea...

Love this! I think non-fiction is the way to go for the introvert group. There are many other book club meetup groups that already cover fiction.

Just my luck. After being on the Wait List for weeks now, I am "Confirmed" for Sunday only to have to take myself off the list. I need to be in church on Sunday to promote participation in the American Cancer Society Relay For Life Event in Aurora later this year. To whoever gets 'my spot', "Enjoy yourself! Have a good time for both of us".

You also can go to the upper right corner of this page and click on "My Profile." One of the options is Email and Notifications. There you can select several options about what type of emails you want to receive.

Oh, and the reason you are getting notifications about comments in the first place is that you commented on this thread awhile back. So Meetup.com assumes you want to be in the loop about other people who post. Turning off notifications will free up your in-box. (And rather than send an email only to you, I am posting this here for other members who also want to slow down or stop the messages coming into their in-box.) Have a great day, tor!

It looks like you are on the waitlist for this (3/16) meetup but not for 3/23. You might want to sign up for the 3/23 one if you can only attend that one...(and then delete your spot on this list).

gheez can't you guys meet for something without having alcohol on the menu? i'd like to meet some new faces without wondering if they're enabled. it seems half the meetups you guys list are happy hours, now i can't even sign up for a morning book discussion without booze mentioned? major turn off.

Oh dear, I hope I didn't give the impression that this would be a wild and crazy happy-hour type event. I mentioned it because some people like these beverages with their brunch in particular. I do hope you reconsider and sign-up for the waiting list.
