Bishop's Castle

A poker run starting at Rosie's Diner in Monument

Route: http://goo.gl/maps/x7e20

Meet time is 9:00am at Rosies in Monument.
Feel free to come early for breakfast, but don't miss the start time waiting on your food.

Our destination will be Bishops Castle

A really interesting and unique structure down by Beulah, CO. Definitely worth the trip, even if the builder is a bit of a nut job.

We will have several stops along the way for gas, lunch, and the castle. We will do the card draws during the existing stops.

This will be a long day of riding, especially considering how far the start point is for many of you.

The poker run. $10 a hand, 5 cards. Ability to draw two replacement cards for $5 each at the end. 50/50 jackpot with the club.

Our lunch stop is Sangrita's 212 main st Westcliff, since its always fun to try to find a resteraunt in a small town.

270 miles round trip, plus your distance to the start point.

Meet up at Rosies Diner in Monument,
High Drive, Canon City (Card)
Royal Gorge Overlook (card)
Lunch in Westcliffe (card)
Bishops Castle (card)
Rest area at Colorado City, final card, replacement cards
Will be a rolling ride call in Monument on return.

I think it is funny how smart we think we are. When I put the side bags on my bike I noticed they came with rain covers, I have even put them on once (it didn't rain). For as much rain as there was on the way home they actually did very well. Everything has been drying off in the garage.
Thanks again for a great ride. I think everyone did a great job, especially since most have not ridden together before. Most everyone that I got to talk to was very nice and it hardly seemed like we had just met.

Yeah, our stuff was soaked as well. The bike needs a bath. I am glad you had a good time.

You actually got to "talk" to Jim Bishop! Everytime I was with him, all I got to do was listen!!

This one is not in the cards for me... Tell Jim Bishop I said hello. I love talking with that guy!

Sounds like it was fun.... I had a training session that was really fun too. I always enjoy a day of helping people to increase their riding abilities. I love their smiles as they catch on to a new technique and it works for them!

What a great ride. A lot of fun people. I did not mind the rain but the lack of visibility got scary. The inside of my visor got fogged up in the dark with nowhere to get off to take care of it. I hope HJC makes a breath guard for my helmet.

I've heard of people using a very small drill bit and drilling a few very small holes on each side and top/bottom of the visor to help keep it from fogging up... I don't know how successful the procedure is???

One of the best group rides of the year for me. I usually ride alone but found today to be a great time. It was very well organized and safe.

Alot of fun, with a ton of riders. And someone walked away with a nice jackpot. Managed to avoid the rain all day, till Colorado Springs on the way home.

Today was a fantastic day. We got in just over 300 miles and I met some great new people. The poker was a blast. I really enjoy Bishop Castle. I hope you all had as good time as I did today. I rained on us from the springs to Denver on the way home. Thank you all for your participation on this ride.

Is anyone heading down 105 in the morning to Rosies? I am going down a bit early for breakfast and want to know if anyone wants to meet at the Conoco at santa fe and blakeland to ride down together.

Wasn't sure if I was going to be able to make this one, but it looks good. See you lot tomorrow morning bright and early.

Good times! Lesson learned = when in doubt put your rain gear on!

Looks like the rain/chance or rain is less tomorrow than the past few days, but still a good bet to bring your rain gear. I'm going to get over to Rosies early to get some breakfast, feel free to join me.

I have never been to Rosies for breakfast so I do not know how long it takes to be served. What time would you recommend getting there to eat and still have time before KSU?

    September 12, 2013

    • Tiger m.

They are a diner so usually they are reasonable in service time. I try to shoot for an hour so I have time to bs, but 45 min is usually safe. Just trying to avoid people showing up 10 min before and ordering steak and eggs :-)

Can you explain the rolling ride call in Monument? I have friends in the Springs that I was thinking about visiting when we pass through on the way back.

    September 3, 2013

    • Tiger m.

Just remind the people leading the ride that day again as its still a ways off and we do worry if someone disappears unexpectedly

      Reasonable enough

    Looks like a great ride.

This will be fun. My son rides dirt bikes with me and he is riding with me for this trip!
