Please note the date change
As the original dates fell on Father's Day weekend, we are moving the date, and setting location to coincide with the PPRAA Amateur Radio Field Day.
This will be our first FTX.
Training topics are as follows:
Land navigation/map/compass (more information coming on maps needed for the area, a good compass is required)
GPS (a handheld GPS is not required, we will have a limited number of loaners available, but we highly recommend you bring one. Email me if you need help selecting a good starter unit.)
Field Sanitation (Both training and practice :-)
Wilderness medical (Our Feb May 26 training is on Medical Trauma. We will build on that knowledge with more hand's on field training)
Basic Firearm Marksmanship is possible, more information to follow. If possible, it will likely be limited to 22 lr.
I have coordinated with the land owner to have us put in a corner away from the main Field Day event. We will likely have 2-3 large campers we can create a horse-shoe base camp to provide some privacy. Anticipate doing a site visit before the next training date of May 26th and should have more information then.
This is a weekend event that is a perfect opportunity to learn and try out your radio, and learn more than you ever wanted to know about antennas. I will be there with a huge camper, with lots of room for those who want to stay for the overnight DX work on Sat night. Talk In frequency is 146.580. The location is out East near Calhan, and lots of events, seminars, and vendors going on. Even if you're not a HAM (yet) it's a great event to lean more about the capabilities of Amateur Radio...a potentially important skill for independent living.
Hope to see you there!
We will still have the training session Sunday evening at the normal time and place.
