The meetup was intriguing. Award winning TEDx speaker, photographer and movie maker, Shawn Heinrichs presented a slide show called, "Choice". He stressed that scuba divers can make a significant difference in the health of the ocean by their seafood choices and their dive destination locations. He stated that Divers are viewed as "more expert" than others regarding ocean health because Divers see environmental impacts underwater. He encouraged divers to be Ambassadors and be active in ocean protection. Shawn pointed out that we need to be very careful about what we eat because of fishery by-catch and declining stocks. He also showed his beautiful new movie, Betrayal. This is a must see...

Allen, I am sorry you felt alienated I know that some of the message is often mistaken as political it is not it is a matter of survival and a wake up call for the human race. I have the upmost respect for Shawn and the message he is relaying even though it may be uncomfortable at times the truth needs to be exposed because it is so often diminished by those who make a profit from its dismissal. So we all have a "Choice" as Shawn suggested and we make them independently of the choices others make and we all serve our own conscious. I would hope that you consider the fact that not all of us think exactly alike but we have a commonality that resonates within us that has to do with the moral commitments to the survival of the oceans. Without the survival of the ocean ecosystem we are unable to survive ourselves. Please continue to join us. Best John G

Way too polital. I felt alienated. Perhaps people like me don't belong with this crowd. Way too narrow a demographic.

Hi Allen, It was really nice seeing you again, and thank you for the beer and chili. Shawn's presentation was stronger than I anticipated and I am sorry you felt alienated. I really enjoyed talking with you and I hope that you might try another meet-up. This one was unusual in that we had a end of year presentation, often it is just chatting and networking. Hope you will give the meet up another try one day. Best, Vicki

Hi Allen, Yes, I, too, thank you for the beer and chili. As Vicki said, most of our meetings are more low key. Shawn has so much experience and presents the science, the facts, as he sees them. And it isn't a very happy story although people throughout the world are taking fantastic measures to improve the health of the oceans. Hope to see you again and introduce you to more folks in our circle.
