Since we are discussing it I started researching acetone vapor finishing. Here are 2 videos I found showing different techniques: www.youtube.com/watch?v=bcXLJRIKGuQ and www.youtube.com/watch?v=r3nJbU9OInk Anyone interested in building a vapor setup to be shared?

I would like to compare print quality among printers. It makes sense to to me to choose an object from Thingaverse. I have an Afinia printer with 5.5"x5.5"x5.25" capacity.

I have printed "50mm Calibration Chip Clip" many times, I did "Build plate leveler" this week, a couple of the thin-wall tests, "Calibration block - thin walls, overhang, bridge, holes". I like that one. The overhang corner on my print had a slight warp up. I have spent the last few days trying to learn about warping and how to avoid it without much success. If you have never printed a "tower" structure to look for z-wobble I added zwobble issolation. Maybe "10x10x10" or the z-wobble test. have tried to slice "3D Calibration Ruler" I think that would be an awsome test, but it keeps crashing my slic3r?

Hi All - can't make the changed date of the 21st; hope all that attend have a great meetup!
Just for fun on my own, where are the models for that day posted?

Sorry about that mark. Catch you next time. I will post up a follow up on Randy's thread below.

My apologies, I have to bump back the meeting from Aug. 14 to the week of the 19th. We hope the 21st. Waiting for the OK from Epicentral. My apologies for any inconvenience.

21st approved. I hope Maurice and Steve will still bring their printers???

I've asked them to post here confirming the builds. I also suggested that they solder the extension wires to the steppers ahead of time. If they need to drill holes for endstop mounts I recommend that they use a drill press (again ahead of time) or get someone to print endstop mounts for them. I don't think we would harm a table but covering it with cardboard wouldn't hurt. I've told them I would point them along, but they would be doing the work. I'm not sure how they feel about recruiting help to solder etc... So this is their and anyone else that wants to work on a machines table. (Maurice, Steve)

I hope to bring my machine separately for the compare group.

Hey Randy, I'm definitely going to bring my partially built printer to this meetup to recieve the help & let others share in the process.

I love this idea Randy. What do you need for a build table. I am guessing something we are not worried about damaging?

    July 25, 2013

  • Randy

I have two friends that have started building ord-bots. Maybe we can encourage them to bring the box of parts and work on it at this meeting. That way we could help them, and others could see what is involved. If they have all the parts I think it could be finished in two hours. If there is an interest in setting up a build table I'll push them to attend.

I am strongly considering the purchase of a 3d printer and would like to here pros and cons of those available. Last meetup I attended it appeared there was at least 4 different printers. Thanks, Mike
