February technical meeting.

Ryan McGuire will run a mid-level Blender class. We will design a part then print it. Please review his message below.

Please review these videos before the meeting:
http://cgcookie.com/blender/cgc-courses/blender-basics-introduction-for-beginners/. Recommend doing lessons 1-3. Thanks.

Message from Ryan:

Just wanted to let everyone know that they should bring their laptop with Blender already installed. I will be using version 2.69. We will build a toy car that will print in place with captured wheels that will roll, right off the print bed. Running through the first 3 videos on http://cgcookie.com/blender/cgc... will really help you get prepared for the class. I'm really excited about this. Let me know if you have any questions before the meet up.

Thanks Ryan for the class, it was fun and definitely informative. I am looking forward to the next class.

Here are some blender shortcuts reference guides to make maneuvering Blender easier. I like the first one the best, but you pick.

I had a blast teaching the class. Next time we will be even more prepared to keep everyone together. I hope everyone will be able to join us next time. Send me your ideas for other tutorials. I'll try to upload the file from tonight for everyone to study and print.

Looks like I will have a fully functional printer by the meeting (Hopefully). Anyone have any recomendations on the best place to get 3mm ABS?

Like Bjorn, I try to keep with Lulzbot.com filament. Watch your shipping FOB with them. Some color/sizes come from different warehouses. I ordered a spool from Filament Central. Shipped very fast, but have not had a chance to test quality yet.

Thank you... I think I will try Filament Central they seem to have the best price. Most of the 3mm abs from Lulzbot is showing $42 shipping. Will have to wait till this Friday to order anyway. I ordered my hotend from Ultibots.com and they had fast shipping and excellent customer service when I had some questions so I might also consider them. Their filament is also made in USA suposedly.

My printer is awaiting the return of the driver circuit board. It is hard to wait like Christmas morning.

Just finished assembly of my first 3D printer - a Printrbot Simple - and completed my first successful print - after much effort - a Valentine Heart for my Granddaughter. I plan on selling it for $365 (my cost) so I can buy another to build. It is the 2014 model with aluminum extruder and aluminum bed. If you're interested in checking it out you can call me at[masked]-5501. I can bring it to the meeting if possible. Rob

Please feel free to bring it. Do you know about the meetup on the north side? They focus on printer builds and helping out... http://www.meetup.com/Pikes-Peak-RepRap/events/164115052/

Thanks, I joined the group but all the meetings are when I work. I have found a large number of excellent build videos on you tube.

I should have all the parts to my Prusa i3 minus the hot end before the meeting and will try to get it mostly complete by the meeting if anyone wants me to bring it... Won't be able to print but if anyone was interested in the i3... Looking forward to the blender class :)

I would be interested in a start up class in blender or another modeling program that is not so complicated. I mess around with a few but it is mostly trial by fire.
