Snowy Range –Medicine Bow National Forest, WY -Backpack 4 days (5 day trip)

RSVP's open on May 24th

5 day trip – July 24  - July 28

· Day one – travel to Snowy Range – meet at the Bar in Centennial WY (just East of Forest) - Camp  Cabin at Towner Lake (a friends very rustic Cabin)  Hunt for Mushrooms

• NOTE: this is based on last years trip but we may have some alternate routes and lakes to stay at....

· Day Two – From the Brooklyn Lake Trail head - take Trail #289 break off to Trail # 102 to Cutthroat Lake or Reservoir Lake (depending on how we feel (about 5 -6 miles) – camp at ???????

· Day Three – In late AM on trail #102 hike to Shelf Lakes (north on trail #109) (about 2 to 3 miles) - Camp round one of the lakes. (or ??????)

· Day Four - Hike to next camp site to be decided on later

· Day Five - hike out to Brooklyn lake Trail head –Head home

From middle of Denver to Centennial it is about 3 hour drive. From Centennial it is 45 minutes to cabin at Towner. From Cabin to trail head it is about 30 minutes

Backpack is approx 12 to 15 miles miles (best est. at this time – It will depend on side hikes and optional lakes to camp out for the best sites.

Forest, Sub-alpine, alpine, and above timber line camping. Lakes –  my ruff est. is about 15 to 20 different lakes. Flowers, Marmots, and Moose. VIEWS, Photo opts. And Fishing (from what I can tell from the information FISHING IS BIG HERE-

LIMITED TO 15 people – Based on tent sites – encourage sharing a tent, food and gear - as it will work...

EST (simple calculation for now) Elevation CHANGE (up and down is about… 3000 feet up and down

Scenery: 5 Outstanding

Difficulty:3 Multi-day – big elevation gains – But each day will be short (I want to stop for photos

Solitude: 4 several groups in different part, some areas it might be just us -

 Map and fishing information

No Dogs on this trip – Wildlife

Risks – Weather – afternoon storms – lighting – altitude – Moose

Temp range: At night it Gets cold – days are hot – so my Est.are upper 70’s during the day and upper 30’s at night . The snow in the area will still be on the ground – roads into the area are sometimes still snow blocked in to late June

Some roads to (i.e. to Towner) are dirt and not well maintained… I will get up dates on conditions as we get closer.

Complete this form IMMEDIATELY after you RSVP

IF no form completed - I will change your RSVP to NO with in 24 hours.

Questions email me: [masked] -

By RSVPing YES you hereby acknowledge and except the terms of agreement for the group. Your emailing the information to me will act as an electronic signature that you accept those terms. You had to read them to join the group but if you would like to review them they can be found at: under the “More” tab – “Files” - Meetup Group TERMS OF AGREEMENT

If you disagree with any of the Terms please do not RSVP and drop out of the group as this is required on all trips and to be a member of this group.

MY ONLY RULE (and it works for everything) “RESPECT”

Respect – each other, nature, the trail, the campsite, the ranger, the laws of the land, others privacy and personal space, regulations, the group, the trees, the bears, your gear, my gear, the others gear… you get the idea… respect goes a long way and pretty much covers everything you have to do in life including No Trace!

Car Pooling – I would recommend we do car pool – I will help but not be organizing directly - more to come to those who are going on the trip.

Much of the Information is ESTIMATED or EVEN A GUESS for right now. It is not a place where a lot of people go Backpacking so kind of known – but this also provides the challenge in finding good information on Backpacking there – Some of it might be winging it and making changes on the trail due to weather, trail, time, and best places to set up tents… But that is what will make this an adventure!!!

FOR SURE MORE INFORMATION WILL sent to those going on the trip.

Also understand the Trails and Camp locations may change
