Visit Stone Creek Farmstead

"It was a hobby gone terribly awry," Dianna of Stone Creek Farmstead told me with a smile.

Stone Creek, a farm located in the mountains near Divide, is a licensed goat milk dairy.  You may have seen them at the Colorado Farm and Art Market or the Woodland Park Farmers market.  They sell hand-made artisan cheese, fresh goat milk, goat milk soap and lotions.

You can take a variety of classes there, but a few times a year they open up the farmstead to the public.  They have a small store where visitors can buy the things mentioned above.  They also offer eggs from their flock of silver laced wyandotte chickens, fresh homemade bread and homemade crackers.

And, best of all in my animal-loving opinion, we get to meet the goats!

Join us for this visit to their beautiful farm!  We'll arrange a place to meet somewhere in the vicinity of W. Colorado Ave & I-25, and carpool for the 45 minute trip to Divide.

(If you can't join us at 11:00, feel free to head up there on your own.  The hours are 9AM - 1PM.)

It was a beautiful place and I had so much fun. Even the owners are so cool.

I'm going to head up there on my own with 3 in my car tomorrow morning a little earlier. I hope to meet you guys up there later on after noon.

Pat, thank you so much for starting the conversation! I've been so busy this week!

Let's meet at the north end of the Safeway parking lot, as Frank describes it. If we meet at 11:00 then we should be able to be there by noon. Dianna offered the Farmstead as a place to eat, so bring a lunch and plan to buy some cheese. :-)

Okay here is the change. I have to give my car for urgent service. So, I won't be able to offer any rides. Now I am looking for a shared ride where I will share the fuel costs.

Safeway good! More specifically, how about we meet at the NORTH end of Safeway building in the narrow parking area facing W. Colorado Ave.

I'll be driving a silver Mustang with an unmistakable black racing stripe up and over the top. I can also take 1-1/2 (!) people. (The "half" would be a petite person for the back seat as there is not a lot of room back there.)

I think the Safeway parking lot would be a great place to meet. Maybe we should be more specific (Like east side or street side, etc.) so we find each other. I would be in favor of meeting there at 11:00. How about everyone else?

I sent a message to Bonnie to remind her that we have not designated a place to meet Saturday. She sent me back a message that she has a friend moving in and has been really busy. She asked that I (we) think of some place. Since I am new to Colorado, I'm really not familiar with the area. Anyone have any suggestions? Also I had asked about lunch since we will be gone from 11:00 to around 2:00. There is not any place at the farm to buy lunch but if we would like to take sack/picnic lunches, Bonnie says we can eat it in the mountains...lovely surroundings. What do you think? Want to bring your lunch?

Since their Farm Store is open that day, their website indicates that "All of our products including our small batch Estate Cheeses will be available at the farm...and we’ll be offering specials such as fresh homemade breads, jams, goats milk fudge and crackers..." A good compromise on a meeting place and packing lunch would be to meet in the Safeway parking lot at 32nd St & W Colorado, which is just a couple of minutes from Hwy 24. Thoughts?

Also, it's about 45 minutes from Safeway to Stone Creek (http://goo.gl/maps/wb...); their Farm Store is open 10-2, so we'd need to determine if we want to meet in town at 11 or at Stone Creek at 11...

I'd like to ride with someone. And I assume we can buy cheese at the farm?

    April 27, 2013

    • Bonnie

Yes. They will have cheese for sale at the farm.

Bonnie, I can ride in the back and pay for gas; I'm used to the hair. MY back seat is a lost cause... ;) Is there an admission fee or "suggested donation" for the farmstead, please?

    April 22, 2013

    • Bonnie

No admission fee. No doubt we will buy enough to cover the trouble of having us there. :-)

Bonnie, do they have a place for lunch there? You didn't mention it and we are going around lunch time. If they don't, what if all brought sack lunches...is there a place to sit down and eat? I am in agreement with Colene..if you are riding with someone chip in on the gas. My car is experiencing an intermittent problem right now so if we have not isolated and fixed it by then I probably better not offer to drive.

They don't have a place for lunch that I know of. I'm sure there are parks or other public places people could eat lunch, but I don't know where they are. Does anyone else?

I am trying to plan my day. What time should this be done? Thank you.

    April 27, 2013

I think we'll be back by around 2PM.

We can fit 2-3 people, you will just have to handle fur, to super talkative kids and the scent of Alpaca poo which lingers long after dumping it in the compost...

    April 26, 2013

  • Bonnie

I will do my best to clean out my car enough to make it presentable by then. I can take 3 people.

    April 22, 2013

  • Frank M.

I'll be driving and I can take 1 adult and possibly 2 VERY short people in the back. Typical no rear-seat room Mustang. (You'd think Detroit could spare 12" additional on the frame!)

Sounds like great fun and maybe it won't be snowing by then!
