Berry Picking and Dinner

It's the time of year we've all been waiting for! Join us for blackberry and raspberry picking at Happy Apple Farm and then we'll enjoy dinner at the unique and delicious Juniper Valley Ranch Restaurant.

Why am I inconveniently scheduling this event on a Thursday afternoon?  Because the farm closes a couple days a week and we'll have the best pick of berries if we beat the crowds to the fields!  The farm supplies the containers, we supply the labor (and the eating).

Sign up soon for this well-attended event!  It's limited to 20 participants so we don't overwhelm the restaurant.  We did it last year and have been talking about it all year!  Put in for the afternoon off from work right now and plan to bring your kids!  You'll be glad you did when your stomach is full of house-made fried chicken and the kids are eating fresh-picked berries like candy!

Sorry I didn't meet up with y'all, but I wasn't sure where you ended up doing dinner with the location change. I hope it was fun!

As they say, "timing is everything"! The bushes were full of promise, but not quite ready for us...I hope some of you are able to head back next Wed. AM -- they're going to be WONDERFUL!

For berry picking: meet at 3PM at the Happy Apple Farm, at the store building near the parking lot.
For dinner: Because Juniper Valley isn't available until 7 tonight, TENTATIVELY meet at 5:30 at the Stagecoach Inn in Manitou (702 Manitou Ave, Manitou Springs, CO 80829). The location will be confirmed this afternoon after Bonnie talks to Stagecoach and gets a head count of who will be eating...

      3?

I'll be there at 3PM. Sorry about the confusion, I worked in travel time and forgot to explain it in the description. The farm is open to the public. If you get there at 2:00, just go into the store and they'll explain what to do.

Sorry came back from vacation and I'm broke

I would love to come just for dinner depending on what time you are planning. If that's okay?

    August 29, 2013

    • Bonnie

Rachael, that would be great. If you email me your cell phone #, I'll text you when we know if we're going for dinner.

So, is it just berry picking and no dinner? Or a date change with dinner?

    August 28, 2013

    • Bonnie

It's berry picking with a chance of dinner, but dinner isn't certain. We're going to have to decide on the fly. The only thing I'm sure of is we won't be having dinner at the Juniper Valley Ranch Restaurant where I wanted to go.

    Carpools?

    August 23, 2013

    • Elise Rothman d.

yes, carpools? I live in Manitou and would be very glad to help but need a ride out there and probably back to. I can bus around town and meet someone somewhere...

      August 28, 2013

    • Bonnie

By all means, arrange carpools among yourselves. I will be coming from another appointment and will meet you there.

We will only do the picking I think. Thanks

Is this the only day they do berry picking or are there other times. I have work

    August 22, 2013

    • Bonnie

They have other days and weekend hours. Click on the link to see the schedule on their website. I chose Thursday to get the best pick of berries. They can be picked out by Sunday.

Are well-behaved, leashed dogs still allowed?

    August 19, 2013

    • Bonnie

I'm not sure. You'll have to check with the farm. I'm sure they're not allowed at the dinner table, though, since everything is family style and they don't have hands.

Cute. The banner ad says "Pet's Welcome", but I just wanted to check to be sure it's okay with you; Jake really enjoyed it last year. ;) Unfortunately dinner isn't in the budget, so please don't include me in the Juniper Valley head count, either. Thanks!

Just a reminder that you don't need to include my daughters and me in the dinner headcount!

I would love to come with my two little girls, but I won't be able to come to dinner because we have swim lessons in the evening. Will that work? Will we still be able to come and pick berries?

    August 19, 2013

    • Bonnie

Sure! The berry picking is lots of fun all by itself!

So excited to have found this group and extra excited for berry picking. I'm bringing my two kids 4 and 7 and indicated that in "+ guests" part of the RSVP. Don't know if that was correct or not.

That's exactly right! See you there!

    Hey Sagar,

    Let's go.

Are the berries for us or them, or are they for sale after?

    August 19, 2013

    • Bonnie

We pick them and pay for them and then take them home (if they get that far ... I often eat mine in the car).

      August 19, 2013

  • Teri E.

We will have to pick and run. We have our first soccer practice at 6. Is it ok to bring the kids? They are really good gardeners.

    August 19, 2013

    • Bonnie

Absolutely! This is a great meetup for kids.

I guess I can force my family to eat Juniper Inn twice in one month :)
