Falcon Trail - Air Force Academy Clockwise lap 1

Seeing as it has been like 9 months since I've ridden Falcon Trail and I no longer ride it in the snow I'd better get to this one before summer is over.  I don't see any big activities going on at the base this weekend so Saturday is the day! Supposed to be hot so I'm getting an early start.

This is a 13 mile loop, normal mountain singletrack ride, with a few short technical sections. It is challenging aerobically. It should take us about 2 to 3 hours depending on who is going. Come prepared with water/waterpack, tube, pump, helmet, etc.

I may do a second lap CCW so after some reequipping at the car planning to start lap 2

Remember to bring a picture I.D. (drivers license) to get through the Northgate security check station, give some extra time this can be time consuming if lots people are getting in at the same time.  You will enter the Air Force Academy through the Northgate only, NOT the southgate off Academy Blvd unless you have a military ID.  You need a drivers license for the Northgate entrance and to get to the trailhead.

Here is a map of the start location/Parking:

Great ride - thanks much. Hats off to Brian for getting us all together in the midst of the chaos. Enjoyed the ride!

Way to somehow manage to keep things organized, Brian, in spite of 11th hour USAFA wackiness! Fun ride! I did complete 2nd loop and looped back to my car via the B-52 trail cutoff. Thanks for turning me onto that! Counterclockwise loop was good but that last mile climb (after mile-6 marker) was pretty brutal in the direct sun. (Riding in the sauna.)

Have a safe trip to NY.

I was turned back by a guardat corner of Academy and Stadium due to an event. I have never done this trail so am not sure how else to get to the meeting point.

Take the south gate instead. It is clear that way.

I'm doing a lap on my own at 630 and I'll tag along with the group for the second lap. See you in a few.

NO BIG EVENT GOING ON THIS WEEKEND!?!? What type of springing are you? It's only the pikes peak half and full weekend! Don't worry the only reason I know that is because my wife is reporting on it for pikes peak sports. ;-P
