Fruita Fat Tire Festival - Our 500th meetup!

I am planning a multi-day trip to Fruita for the Fat Tire Festival (http://www.fruitamountainbike.com/ride-info/)

I haven't been there but am coordinating with Randy from the Meetup group out there and they are willing to take us on some rides since they know the area!

Here's what I need if you are interesting in coming:

• Thoughts on what type of rides you want??

• Carpooling?

• Coordinate sharing camping spaces/Kabins?

(I will be bringing my camping grill and beverages...)

There are several camping options including:

• KOA Grand Junction -UPDATE- they don't open until May 1st

• Highline State Park- No campsites available

• Bookcliffs (http://www.blm.gov/co/st/en/fo/gjfo/recreation/north_fruita_desert.html)

• Monument RV Resort in Fruita has cabins, tent sites and pull through: http://www.monumentrvresort.com/cabins.html

As the event gets closer I will post updates! Thanks for your input and looking forward to an EPIC time in Fruita!

*******UPDATE*************************************

Randy in Grand Junction has posted rides for Fruita! Check them out and sign up here: http://www.meetup.com/GJ-CyclePaths/events/163189182/

Yes. Not sure exactly when that might be yet. Are you looking for someone to carpool with?

Hey Stephen, since I couldn't go down yesterday and keeping track of the Fruita weather forecast for the weekend, though I really was looking forward to this, I couldn't justify the 10 hours of driving since it looks like it may rain all day tomorrow. Will have to catch this one next time!

There is no need to make reservations in the overflow camping area which is near the trailhead which has bathroom bring toilet paper!! this field is large enough for probably 500 campsites. It is free. seems every body makes their own firepit so bring firewood maybe a fire pan to be legit. If you decide to camp somewhere else, when you see it you will say why the F#$% didn't we just camp here. bring water for drinking and washing. have a great time!!

the overflow camping at the bookcliffs north fruita desert is IDEAL place to set up. It's free and it is at the bottom of the trails so you can finish on the downhill. very large field with plenty of spots to set up festive atmosphere

Hmm. Looks like the Highline State Park campsites are already completely booked for that weekend. Since the Bookcliff campsites are first-come-first-served, I'm guessing those would be pretty iffy to count on just showing up Friday eve.

Since I've become something of a camping wimp, anyway, I'll probably just book a hotel in Grand Junction (no way I'm spending $90+ a night for a Super-8 in Fruita!) and meet up with you guys wherever/whenever to ride!

Hey Michelle. Did you get yourself set up with a place to stay in Fruita or GJ? So we can connect up on Saturday morning to ride (the 1st full day I'll be there) would you feel ok about sharing your cell #? Mine is 719.291.5629. My email address is [masked]

I'd be attending with Michael Merrifield - I have a mini motor home and could take 1 other rider with me to share gas/camping costs, so let me know if interested.

There is also a nice camping area in the Bookcliffs area, right on the trails.

There is also a nice private campground in Fruita, similar to a KOA
