If you've been waiting for something manageable this is it!! One of the easiest rides in this area is Spruce Mountain/Spruce Meadows just north of Monument. If you have been waiting for an easy ride to sign up on this is it! We will start at the lower Spruce Meadows trailhead that is across the railroad tracks on the dirt road west from the Greenland Exit. NOTE: There are TWO trailheads close together here. Go to the one furthest west just across the railroad tracks, NOT the one with small buildings. See the map link below!
We will get a decent warm up before crossing Spruce Mtn Road. The hardest part of the ride is the climb up from the Spruce Mtn Trailhead parking lot. This is a multi-use trail (hikers, bikers and horses), it is basically non-technical and the views on top are quite nice. I'm starting a little early to beat the horses and their riders.
There is the option of just riding the Spruce Mountain trail if that is all one wants to do. This route will be about 5 miles. If you want info about just riding Spruce Mountain trail send me a message and I will give you the details for time and location.
The total distance is about 13 miles. This ride is geared toward those who need an easy ride to feel comfortable signing up. Don't be shy this is your chance to get out and ride one of the easy rides in the area that still affords very nice views and scenery. This ride is relaxed and designed to be more social than most rides. I'll be stopping at some of the overlooks to take in the beauty so there will be lots of breaks.
Trailhead Location: From I-25, take the Greenland Exit (167) to the west and travel ¼ mile west and ½ mile south. Bypass the Greenland Trailhead and continue right on the main gravel road (Noe Road) over two sets of railroad tracks. The parking area is just up a short hill on your left, on the south side of the road.
Here is a map to the trailhead:
