BRP/Can Am Spyder Owners Event- June 26-27, 2014 - Back to Durango!!!

At our meeting on Saturday... two groups decided on two meeting times for anyone who would like to ride to Durango (from the Denver area) as part of a group.

The first group will meet at the Morrison Conoco at 8:00AM on Tuesday the 24th

The second group will meet at the Morrison Conoco at 9:00AM on Wednesday the 25th

We might also want to think about a way to save 8 or 9 tables at Dinner on Thursday or Lunch on Friday and get together as a group???  There will be lots of people to meet and talk with as well.  It's a great time to visit with Spyder Ryders from all over our great country and Canada!

A few people asked me to post my cell #... so in case you would like to reach me or have questions, feel free to text or call me anytime.  George -[masked]

If you would like to post your # for other Spyder Ryders... feel welcome to do so or post questions in the comments section under this meetup.

I'll be heading to Durango on Monday the 23rd to practice some of the group rydes I'll be leading for Can Am.  If anyone would like to be a part of the volunteer ryde team (it's pretty easy) let me know!!!

I hope to see you all in Durango or before then.... it's going to be a great Summer, Let's Ryde!!!

I assume someone has done this ride before. What will be the gas stops on this route?

    June 17

    • Tom G.

Although I'm in the Wednesday group, I drive the route during the year going to and from Phoenix. Candidate fuel stops would be [1] Shell or Centex at Johnson Village (just south of Buena Vista and 102 miles from Morrison), [1a] Sinclair at Poncha Springs (22 miles from [1] if you want to go further on the first leg), [2] Shell in Del Norte (77 miles from [1a]], [3] Shell, Phil66, or City Market at Country Center (4 miles west of Pagosa Springs and 62 miles from [2]), [4] vicinity Durango (54 miles from [3]). Its 193 miles from Poncha Springs to Durango and will be going up and over Wolf Creek Pass so I wouldn't recommend skipping an intervening fuel stop.

Not knowing for sure Amy, but if we gas up in Poncha Springs, we should make Durango... and if not, it's all downhill into town!

I was just down to Salida today and the proposed location for the two groups to meet at the Shell station on Hwy 50 may be problematic. Currently the US-50/US-285 junction is torn up and apparently being realigned. The traffic redirection and lane closures extend down hwy 50 past the Shell station and 2/3 of the intersection is now closed with all US-50 traffic rerouted onto the south access road (normally single lane one-way lane but now two-way). Using the Shell station would require the Denver ryders to traverse the entire construction area and negotiate the cone lanes twice and both groups would have to left-turn across US-50 traffic (normally heavier than US-285 traffic in that area) at least once. It may be better to set the join-up for the Sinclair station on 285 just south of the junction and associated road construction area. There appears to be at least as much parking area room as at the Shell station and it would be easier for the Denver group to access.

    June 4

    • Tom G.

For the Denver group coming down 285 from the Buena Vista area, you will come to a "T" at the end of a long, straight downslope on the north side of Poncha Springs. Again, turn left to stay on 285 and pass on through the 285/50 junction area without turning again, looking for the Sincalir on the left after you clear the construction area. There should be at least two or three of us there by the time you arrive.

      Thank you Tom!

Sure hope you can make it. First things first, though. Get your body recovered and then worry about social commitments. Hey, if you do make it, I'd vote for your Spyder in the "instant customization" category if there is one. LOL

  • Brian J.

For the "South of Denver" group...I plan on leaving Colorado Springs on Wed @9am. Take Co 115 S / Hwy 50 W to Canon City. There is a Diamond Shamrock on the right side after entering C/City and we can make that a rally point . Leave there at approx 10am and rendezvous with the Denver group at 11:15 @ the Shell station on the western edge of Salida near Hwy-285.

    June 3

    • Don C.

Brian, would you like to meet in the Springs? 9 AM works for me too.
