Bring your camera!

Stephane Put this trip on last year in April - I could only attend the Thursday Hike but fell in love with the Group Camp site she had and the location . I also will be doing the Slickrock trail Thursday evening... (check the photos from April 19-[masked] trip)

Where: The Needles District forms the southeast corner of Canyonlands and was named for the colorful spires of Cedar Mesa Sandstone that dominate the area. The district's extensive trail system provides many opportunities for long day hikes. Foot trails and four-wheel-drive roads lead to such features as Tower Ruin, Confluence Overlook, Elephant Hill, the Joint Trail, and Chesler Park.

Hikes: There will be a full day hike both Friday and Saturday -  These are group activities. If you choose not to hike with the group a casual day in camp is always enjoyable or explore other trails

Thursday afternoon – Slickrock Trail.  This is a 2.4 mi loop along the mesa top overlooking the canyon. At sunset, there are miles of cliffs that glow red while the snowy peaks are tinted pink.

Friday Saturday and Sunday Morning have not been planned out yet:

Well, had to rate this last Meetup with five stars. It was so great to be with all you fantastic folks amidst the wonders of sandstone spires, scrambles aplenty, gourmet camp food under a generous tarp, and so many other warm memories. Nice to be out away from Front Range stress and share the magic of Utah with some new friends. Keep your eyes out for a trip I am planning in the next couple of months to the Guard Station in Wyoming Snowy Range. A giant thankful hug to Jeff and Julie in particular for being so prepared, patient, and helpful throughout. See you all again soon!

    Pets

Activities with pets are very limited at Canyonlands. Pets are not allowed on hiking trails or anywhere in the backcountry.

Pets may not accompany groups traveling by four-wheel-drive vehicle, mountain bike or boat.

Pets may accompany visitors in the developed campgrounds, and may be walked in the park along paved roads. Pets may also accompany visitors traversing the Potash/Shafer Canyon road between Moab and the Island in the Sky. Pets must be leashed at all times when outside a vehicle.

    Important!
The desert can be deadly for pets. Car temperatures rise quickly in the sun, even on cool days. Your pet can easily die of heat exhaustion. We recommend you not leave pets in the car at all when temperatures are above 68 degrees, even with the windows cracked.

The following kennels offer boarding services in Moab:

    2781 S. Roberts

OK I see the email below .... weird, I have no record of your email in my inbox, and ... as a matter of fact, I'm no longer getting the updates I once received regularly from this group about tips, info, etc. I think someone else may inadvertently changed my settings?

      April 9, 2014

    • Carah

I did send you a couple emails, I'm completely confused as to how this happened ....

      April 9, 2014

I am open to drive (Toyota Rav4) or ride with somebody. Wooly Mammoth is good spot to meet. Would like to leave in the morning but not 5:00 am :)

Last week I sent an email out to everyone who had completed the list and was on the waiting list to confirm your interest in still going. In the email I asked you email me back by yesterday (3-22) if you still wanted to go and no action on your part was necessary if you did not want to go as I would take care of removing you from the waiting list for you. Those on the waiting list who did not read the instructions and complete the form requested obviously did not supply me their information so they did not get an invitation. I will be removing the people on the waiting list who did not provide the form or did not respond as I that was an acknowledgement of not wanting to be offered a spot.
Those of you who did email me back… I will be moving you to the Going list and you’ll be getting an email from me shortly.
    (Continued below)

  • Jeff D.

If you still have interest in going and I moved you to NO – you need to go ahead and redo the form and wait for future openings. If your go on to the waiting list this means you will be going if a spot is offered. Going on to the waiting list after this date (9/23) and then turning down a spot will be disrespectful of other members and organizers and will get you banned!

Jon, thanks for taking the lead on reserving another site. Just wondering... with a limit of 3 vehicles for 15 people it looks like there will need to be a lot of coordination and community spirit to make things work for the Split Top site!

Not to mention minimization of gear.

      Yay!!!!

      1 · January 7, 2014

  • Jeff D.

YOU MUST complete the form and RSVP to the waiting list - and then Pay after I have contacted you to get you on the GOING LIST! Missing a step or incomplete information will not get you on the trip!

We have about 20 people signed up so far so if anyone is interested in co-hosting this trip with reserving another site (nearby) we could have 2 groups - who could do somethings together and create options for everyone - email me if your interested (this would be easy as I am doing a lot of the ground work.

Wooden shoe Camp site, I am reserving, only holds 15 people and 5 cars - so it will be max.ed out - Obviously Car pooling will be a item I will be reviewing on the form for the right mix of people!

    Hi Jeff (Hi Julie),
It's again me who doesn't have a car. This time I am not even sure that I'll be in US in April. So don't take me serious. However if I am still in US and if I get a ride I would definitely want to be on this trip so I thought I pay the 15$ anyway.
Just wanted to let you know my situation. Thank you.
