The Backpack:

Lost Creek Wilderness

This hike is approximately 19 miles and starts and ends at the Wigwam trail head of Lost Creek Wilderness Area.

• Day 1 - Hike 5.5 miles and 2,500 vertical feet to the ridge between Goose Creek and Wigwam Creek. We may hike an extra mile down hill to Refrigerator Gulch or stop about a half mile short of the ridge depending on weather. The beaver ponds in Wigwam Park have had good fishing in the past.

• Day 2 - Break camp early and hike down to Refrigerator Gulch for breakfast. Refrigerator Gulch is a special place that illustrates why the area is called Lost Creek. Following breakfast hike the bushwhack that connects the McCurdy Park trail with Lost Park. Finish the day climbing beside the many waterfalls climbing to Lost Park. 6 Miles and 1,500 foot climb. Stream fishing opportunities several times and at the end of the day.

• Day 3 - Hike east from Lost Park on the Wigwam trail to the cars. 7.5 miles and about 1,000 climb. Lots of beaver pond fishing.

There are moose in this area. This is early season, so expect some snow. I hike slow and do not mind stopping for pictures and will alter plans based on the conditions and weather.

No dogs and a limit of 6 people.

This hike requires rock scrambling and bushwhack. All gear needs to be inside your pack and your hiking poles stowed for the half mile of the bushwhacking.

RSVP opens April 16th.

Dan, where are those pictures you took on the trail? Don’t be shy and share it with the rest of the world.

Next week works for me. Thanks for postponing and not canceling. Bushwhacking in the snow is no fun.

I can't go 20th due to other conflicts, but I might still go this week for an out/back one night since I have the time off.
