Overview
Bogan Flats Campground stretches along the Crystal River in a valley of aspen groves, towering Ponderosa Pine, spruce, and willow. The setting is ideal for larger groups seeking recreation and relaxation in White River National Forest.

Sites in the campground are widely spaced and offer a nice mixture of open and shaded spots, with several sites at the river's edge. The group site is located away from the main campground, offeri ng a more private location.

Natural Features:
In the heart of the Rocky Mountains, the 2.3 million acre White River National Forest is a place of serenity and adventure, boasting 8 wilderness areas, 4 defined seasons, and 10 peaks surpassing 14,000 feet in elevation.

The Crystal River flows near the campground and drains the Valley of the Coal Miners, a glacial valley that was once a center of coal mining in southwestern Colorado.

Wildlife in the area abounds. Bighorn sheep navigate rocky ridges and bull elk bugle at dusk. Scenic rivers sustain populations of cutthroat, rainbow, and brown trout. Alpine regions provide habitat for pika and ptarmigan. These species, along with many others, depend on surrounding undeveloped wilderness, clean streams, and diverse forests to live.
Recreation:
Crystal River, a tributary of Roaring Fork River, is renowned for its fly fishing. Rainbow, cutthroat and brown trout are plentiful in this waterway.

A hike up Mt. Sopris offers spectacular panoramic views. This 12,953-foot mountain dominates the surrounding landscape. The hike is 14.8 miles with a 4,600-foot. elevation gain. In summer, wildflowers carpet the trail through aspen groves and mixed conifer forest, climbing up to talus slopes.

Other popular activities in the area include jeep tours, biking, and historic sightseeing.
Facilities:
Bogan Flats Campground is able to accommodate tents, trailers and RVs, and has a designated group site.

The campground is equipped with picnic tables, campfire rings, flush toilets, and drinking water. Electrical hook-ups are not available.

Firewood is available on-site for a fee.
Nearby Attractions:
The quaint mountain town of Redstone is a hidden gem, located south of Carbondale. In addition to shops, galleries, and restaurants, the town boasts a castle that was built by industrialist John Osgood at the turn of the 20th century.

I have Bandit's leash and another black Leather leash too. Please write me to get them back. (sorry it took me so long to post this)

AND....thanks so much to Jeff and Sam for the great gazebos and organizing the trip. Really a great group campground and group of campers.
(Had an awesome hike on Sunday to Thomas Lakes at the base of Mt. Sopris. CG host was very nice about negotiating another night at the CG)

I can car pool, in my van or in your vehicle, if it has lots of room for gear. Since this is actually like car camping, I'm bringin some luxuries like a cooler and firewood.

Marble is in Gunnison county (not Eagle). So far, campfires in established CG grills are ok.

    (thank you Julie Mao)

Here is a list of sub trips and things to do - just think about what you want to do and then you can sign up on Friday night (sign up sheets will be at the Happy Hour) - but start thinking about what you want to do....
    1. The Mount Sopris Trail / peak or not
    2. town of Marble / The quarry
    3. The Crystal Mill / side hikes?
    4. Fishing
    5. Glennwood Springs (forgot they are 30 min away)
    6. Geocache (can be mixed with others)
    7. and of course going nowhere is always and option!

I will be bringing some wine and beer (for everyone)- and some snacks for everyone to share at the happy hour -

For those who wish to stay SUNDAY NIGHT and come back on MONDAY (and will commit to paying for an extra night at the group site): Please email me at [masked] Please indicate you will pay for splitting the cost, and also let me know about any ride sharing pertinent info. (drive or ride, vehicle, time can leave Friday, time to get back Monday, where you live, etc.) Then those of us coming back Monday can all communicate through our regular emails which I'll share as they come in and make arrangements for ridesharing. Remember, only 10 vehicles are allowed per CG rules.

As of Sunday 6/16 there are 5 of us that I have email addresses for and one more from the campers MU group that may also be interested. For 6 people it would be $17.50 per person. Hopefully there will end up being more to split the cost. I will reserve the site when I get a little more commitment from people and can take paypal or make other arrangements for getting reimbursed. Thanks, Peter.
