Hello Backpackers and Campers

Some of you I have met, some I have spoken to, others I have emailed? the rest of you I hope we will have the opportunity to meet and travel a trail together someday. I am excited to take the organizer position for the Meet-up group. Sherry is owed gigantic thanks for not only taking on this job for the last year but saving the group from closing down. If you ever have the privilege to hike or camp with her, I would highly recommend it as she is a wonderful person and as she will still be an assistant organizer and putting on trips. So, we will all have that opportunity, to enjoy her company.

I want you to know a little bit more about whom I am:
Currently I work for a Non-Profit organization doing marketing and organizing events. I grew up in Denver and I have 3 kids, one in Culinary School and a cook at a well known restaurant , one going to CU in the fall , and one in High School (she is my backpacking buddy)

I started backpacking when I was 10 years old with my army surplus frame pack (it had heavy cotton back supports) weighed about 45 lbs, I think I weighed about 80 lbs. , it was Mid-May and It was 90 degrees the first day, the next it snowed, I had Hypothermia (barely remember the hike out other than tumbling down 15 foot slope, falling short of going into the overflowing creek) , but I lived. That was how I started out; and guess what, it wasn?t worst things that ever happened. I am a believer that we learn from mistakes (Man, have I had an education?lol).

As time went by I gain experience and knowledge (By the way I still am learning and not planning on stopping). I now teach classes in outdoor survival, backpacking and outdoor cooking, I have lead groups as large as 40 people but most have been with a few friends or my kids. I am Also on the board for Camping Singles Inc. I must say ? there are many outdoors men and women out there with either more experience or different experiences then I have, I am still learning from. I spend a lot of time reviewing new gear and adventures.(just for fun - strange huh?)

What is that I can do for the group? Well, I plan on maintaining the high level or integrality of the group and safety of the members, which Sherry has set. Because Backpacking is so different than other meet-up groups (limited to camping spots at the trail end) we have limits on the number of members that can go. With that, I think is very important that we place as many trips as possible on the calendar ? in other words, if you have a trip you?d like to organize, let me know and we can make you an event organizer and we get the trip on the calendar. I know there is the Interest as the trips we are posting have waiting list within days of posting. Please, if you want to discuss organizing a trip contact me.

I will be looking for a Paying Sponsor for our group meet-up page. If you know a company or an organization which would like sponsor our meet-up page. Please contact me. I believe we could offer in return some good advertising on what they have to offer. Also if anyone has a business that would like to offer an extend discount to the group members, I would like to hear about that as we could get the word out. I would like to review the deals to assure it is valid and a benefit to the group.
We have some Great Assistant Organizers for the group as well, so I will count on them a great deal as I have plans for almost every weekend up to October as well as a couple longer trips. I don?t have problems with any member contacting me directly with ideas, comments, or way we can improve our meet-up events (Constructive Criticism is always welcome as I said.. I learn from my mistakes)
We are all here to have fun and enjoy the outdoors with others? let?s do it.
Travel Well?. Jeff

PS..... We are 3 years old today (founded 2007) !!!
