[masked] UPDATE - the Durango Trip Planning meeting information: (still the best thing to do is to come to the meeting)
I know (as some of you have sent me emails) that you’re interested in going on the Durango Trip BUT can’t make the meeting.. This is fine!
Plans are that at the meeting we review what the trip is, we will review the Campground and MAKE RESERVATIONS right at the meeting. We Review the Train Ride and BUY tickets right at the meeting. I will have 2 laptops at the meeting to handle the reservations.
Why so soon:
Train tickets SELL OUT – NO ticket no ride –4 years ago I had to change my whole plans for this trip as they were sold out on the day I wanted:
Campsites – I would like to Organized Sharing sites in the Campground to cut cost – Sites hold up to 2 tents and max of 8 people. Buy sharing sites and or tenting together (i.e. I plan to bring an 8 man tent to sleep 4 so the cost of my tenting site for those with me is about what a meal would cost) By reserving the sites NOW we can have our group together and not spread out.
Train Tickets- These will sell out – period! – Also if we can purchase them at the same time we can ride together on the same car… later we could be many cars apart. (NOTE: They have options for cars open or enclosed (open Great photos but sucks if the weather is bad) You can walk around from car to car to get photos.
· Attend the meeting – and make your reservations that day – bring cash or credit card – investment will be about:
o $100 ticket (plus $10 for Backpackers)
o $ 140 for Campsite for 7 nights if you’re not going to share! (obviously this drops as you add others)
· Not attend meeting but want to make sure you’re in… I will get on the phone with you and update you at the end of the meeting - YOU then make your reservations for train and campsite on your own, (or you work with someone who has made a campsite reservation and work it out with them.
o What you want to do is RSVP – YES to the meeting but in the COMMENTS post “I will not be at the meeting but call me” – (email me your phone number don’t post it)
o While on the phone we will discuss the reservations made and provide the options of currently sharing sites and tickets (so you Know where everyone else is)
· Not attending but THINK you want to go… well – You will be on your own to make your campsite and train reservations when you can. I will provide you the information to do so.
· Wanting to Go but Don’t know this far in advance if you can…I understand, This is a big trip and this is why I choose this week so fewer days are needed to be taken off work. But HERE is what I would do... I would reserve your site and tickets. If you can’t Go… we can attempt to sell your spot (I don’t think it will be a problem as long as it is far enough to allow people to arrange their schedules to go and take your place)
On the Tent Campers Trip site… I have made some comments on things to do – there is TONS of stuff to do… Fishing, hiking, Mesa Verde, Hot Springs Pool, Micro Breweries, Biking, Art, Shopping, Music, Fireworks .. ETC…
Ok I think Meeting at Starbuck at the REI Downtown Denver is about as Central as I can find… so 1 pm there – I may see if we could use REI meeting room also but plan on going to Starbucks!
