Manitou Celebrates Local First Grocer

Store to provide locally-sourced and organic food to Manitou Residents

Manitou Springs, CO:  Local First Grocer, a co-op focusing on locally-sourced Colorado groceries, announces their “Kickstarter Kickoff!” party scheduled for January 12th at 6:00pm at Adams Mountain Cafe.  Founders Elise Rothman and Luke Cissell, in partnership with David Walker, Lily Kempt, Harry Greene, and other members of the project steering committee are encouraging locals to seize this opportunity to get involved in the future of Manitou food production and consumption. The storefront location at 116 Canon Avenue, will be open to the public in March 2014. Founders insist, “We are working hard to bring quality and accessible local food back onto the shelves and into the stomachs of our neighbors, family, and friends in the Manitou community.  As a co-op, we pride ourselves on working with the community to reinvigorate local food economy, promote food education, and increase the well-being of our customers (wallets included).”

Of the co-op’s progress, the founders reported that great strides have been made to engage the community about the educational, health, and economic benefits of locally sourced food.  Drawing inspiration from local food initiatives across the globe, the founders are eager to keep their supporters updated and involved.  During this kickstarter launch, the Local First Grocer team will offer special rewards to anyone looking to support the project in its early stages.
