Chances are you have heard of this diet or know someone on it. Colleen Patrick-Goudreau has put out yet another excellent podcast. This one is on the Paleo Diet. Here's the description:

The newest fad diet on the block combines all the trends of the day: “low-carb,” “gluten-free,” and “low glycemic index,” instilling fears about healthful foods and waxing poetic about animal flesh and fluids. You might call this a “retro” diet in that in doesn’t look forward; it looks backwards. Way backwards! Not backwards 10 years or 100 years but 20,000 years! Join me as I discuss the The Paleo Diet: why it’s not sustainable, why it’s just fad, why its claims cannot be substantiated, and why it appeals to people who Pasturbate.

Here's a link to the podcast (skip to 6:40 time to by-pass intro or to 13:50 where she begins discussing/debunking the Paleo Diet):

I first heard of the Paleo Diet when I got into CrossFit. I joined a CrossFit gym and received criticism for my plant based lifestyle. I was definitely alone in my "food" lifestyle at the gym but proud of myself for my performance crediting the intake of "healthy" plant based foods, grains, seeds, beans and fruit! Yay!

I like how she says:
"We now know better so we have the responsibility to make better decisions....progress"
"Just because we once killed animals doesn't mean we always have to"
"There are plenty of theories and medical treatments we have abandoned because we have discovered better, safer, more humane, more effective ways of doing things and now know more about human physiology"
"Weight loss occurs in the Paleo Diet because calories have been cut. It's not because you're eating "Paleo Food"

She does a great job taking issue with the way Paleo demonizes eating healthful foods like grains, beans, quinoa, etc. It's silly to say we shouldn't eat these things because our ancestors didn't. We know them today to be very healthy!

Progress not Regress. We can do better than our ancestors because we now know better!
