Plugins Discussion

Hi Folks,

WELCOME new members! Hope to see you there.

Our last meeting generated lots of interest in plugins, so let's take this meeting time to examine a few areas. Here's what I'm thinking. Based on conversations at our last meetings and a recent email, the items below are specific interests. It would be great to have expertise guide us through each of the discussions (e.g. 10 minute presentation, q&a).

Raise your hand, say "I do".

  1. How to choose a plugin. What criteria do you use to select a plugin (other than "plug and hope"? I'd be glad to take this one...any other volunteers?
  2. We had a request to review/recommend ecommerce plugins. Does anyone have special knowledge and experience in that area?
  3. Slider plugins. Best way to add slider to your WordPress site. Volunteer anyone?
  4. Website security. HUGE topic following last weeks massive hacking attempts on WordPress and Joomla sites. Do I see a hand raising out there?
  5. Subscription/newsletter plugin. Anyone out there who has this nailed down and would like to talk about it?

The best way to get a lot of goodness from these meetings is to participate, so don't be shy!

Look forward to seeing you all there!

John....Fantastic stuff. Could you send a list of your recommendations and I'll post on the site along with mine?

Thanks Guys for dragging me along. John's simple suggestion to disable the theme in FTP by inserting a "." in front of the theme name had our blog back up and running with that change alone.

Now using many of the plugins discussed and would toss another on the stack for long-neglected blogs w/lots of spam comments to delete in one swoop (Delete Pending Comments by Nicolas Kuttler) which used to delete >4,3k comments at once.

    Again, many thanks,
