No one from our group is hosting this class so you must RSVP to Eileen below! Limited to, now, 19 people! Although, you can still rsvp here just to let us know who is going!

IDENTIFICATION CLASS:  One week before the festival, an identification education program - October 19, 1- 3 PM, Maggie Rogers will lead the class "Mushroom Basics... Learning How to Identify Mushrooms". This will be a course for beginners to learn the parts of a mushroom how to use mushroom books and a bit of science and habitat. This class will be held in the Flora Room at the Estacada Public Library (825 NW Wade Street, Estacada). This class is limited to 20 students.  Call Eileen to reserve your space today!  [masked]-7155.

Will there be any more identification classes? I live close to Estacada and would love to attend. Looks like the Nov. 2nd class is full. I've got tons of mushrooms out back and would love to eat some. I think i know a couple but won't try it until I know for sure.

James, suggest you check out the Oregon Mycological Society http://wildmushrooms....

They have a monthly meeting on the fourth Monday of each month.. at 6:30P they have an id session... for mushrooms people bring in and then a regular meeting with speaker at 7:30... anyone is welcome (and to bring mushrooms).. November will be the 25th..

I joined last month and just found out today that they also have a 'bookstore' and give member 40% off..

Check the Clackamas library system for mushroom books so you can see which ones work for you before you buy if you want... I also noticed that on today's hunt the guide plus another half dozen people all had David Arora's "All That the Rain Promises and More" http://www.amazon.com...

Also, the Mossy Rock store in Estacada has mushroom books and very nice and helpful people... you might make some 'local' connections..

and last of my 'helpful hints'... http://www.oregonwild... has mushroom info among other things... check their hikes and events tab...

oh, dear... one more.. the 'experts' suggest that you have your ID keys (Arora's book has one and use it as best you can on your own)... take it with you for anything having to do with mushrooms... hikes, ID clinics, etc.. with your specimens (remember to get the whole mushroom) and your ID key AND with a human guide or expert, you'll learn a lot better and faster... yep, I finally took their advise and it works...;)

Maggie and Eileen did a superb job with this class! Gave lots of info on identification, picked at least 50-70 varieties of mushrooms and was able to put a sample of each variety on every table for us to look at, handle, and use the books they provided to help us learn how to identify a mushroom. They even had many "look a likes" of common edible mushrooms so you could learn to tell the difference between the two! And then, answered 1000 questions ;o) I think my favorite thing was learning to do a spore print card with a drawing of the mushroom using its shadow (lifesaver for me as I don't draw to well ;o) and keeping a dried sample. I can't wait to start my library! Thank you Maggie and Eileen, well done!

Dang! We do have 20 members on our site who have signed up with Eileen, but when I took off those I didn't recognize from the list, I'm left with only 7. So apparently many names don't match your Meetup ID, which is ok, but I may have knocked you off the RSVP list because of it. If you have confirmed your spot with Elieen, then you are good to go.

Please email me if you have any questions or concerns regarding this event,

    Thanks so much!

I am so sorry to have to do this, but I will be changing the RSVP's of the people who are not on the official Estacada Identification Class being held on Saturday 10/19. On the Meet Up site description, it clearly states that there was a limit of 20 persons. Please, if you are signed up and have changed your plans, PLEASE let Eileen know ASAP so she can inform those on the waiting list. The waiting list is long, with lots of people wanting to go. This Identification Clinic will be a very good class to attend. Not only will we be going over many of the local edibles in our area, but this class will also help you to understand terms in your identification books, and the several aspects to help identify a mushroom.

If you are signed up but cannot attend on 10/19 for the Identification Class, you can get ahold of Eileen at[masked]-9216. Please let her know ASAP that you will not be attending so that those on the waiting list can be notified.
    Thank you!
