Plant Trees in the Forum Nature Area

We walk past it each Wednesday... here's a chance to make the Forum Nature Area a little more personal.

Planting Location:  We will be planting off-trail, fairly close to the parking area.

Provided: The Parks and Rec Department will provide all the tools...and the trees.

You should bring: You just bring some sturdy boots, water bottles, weather-appropriate clothing, and your favorite pair of work gloves.

What to expect: Dave Dittmer (the head forester for Columbia Parks and Rec) will teach us and other volunteers the most effective way to plant very young seedling trees. An official proclamation signed by Mayor McDavid will be read during the event to thank all the tree planters for their service. Other volunteers from different organizations will be there, too, so this is a chance to meet some new folks with similar interests.

What's the goal? To prevent storm erosion into Hinkson Creek.  This event was created between the several different nonprofits. Any interested folks in the Columbia Walkers and Hikers group are welcome to attend. We're looking to plant about 1,300 trees, and we need 20 to 30 people total to make it a success.

My husband and I changed our minds about planting trees because it is going to be cold and damp. We don't want to risk getting sick. We are already struggling with allergies. Sorry for the late cancellation.

Does anyone want to park at the MLK lot and then either carpool or walk or cycle the trail to get there? Miranda has warned parking may be tight.

Just got permission by the owners of two adjacent lots to use them as overflow parking areas. That's just one more option for you and other folks, Jesse.

Haven't walked with your group yet so I'm not entirely sure where this is. I am assuming it is the place where Katy trail goes by forum. Lower lot?

Yes. The lower parking lot where the MKT intersects Forum Blvd. Good to have you along!

I was into the project and forgot I've been working on a shoulder injury so I better not set myself back by pushing and pulling things around. Sorry see you another day!

This is a great idea - I'm sorry I have to miss it, but I'm already booked that morning. :(

I'm active with two outdoor groups here on meetup. I'm going to suggest this activity to them.

Thanks, Heidi. You should know that we're looking for up to 30 volunteers total--and I'm already expecting about 10 from another group I'm involved with. So if the folks from your meetups can R.S.V.P. to me (my info is above), that would be extremely helpful. I just don't want to overload Dave Dittmer, the forester who is leading this event, with more folks than he can handle.

Andrea, that's fine. We'll be glad to have you both for however long you can be there.
