I'm a copy editor and freelance writer and part-time graduate student. I started writing fiction again a couple of years ago and want to publish my novel(s).
I'm writing adult fiction, although my work is certainly tame enough for young adults.
I've been working on a novel. I have a few short stories I've written and put away for future revision, and a couple of poems.
I had a magazine article published in 1988 and have written online articles and encyclopedia articles on a number of topics. It pays a little, but I'm not famous. :)
I've taken some workshops at the Writer's Center in Bethesda. They were enjoyable, but short-lived. I'm hoping to find a group where I can form a longer-lasting attachment for working through writing problems and just for having fun.
It's what I do. I've written since I was a child, probably because I read voraciously. It was my life.
Friendly and supportive. I look forward to meeting more members!

The club provides soda and the host family provides a few snacks (I do homemade baked goods, usually cookies, but I sometimes branch out) so bringing something to share or a small donation to put in the hat is appreciated. I think I may branch out with Rum Cake for 5th Friday. It went over well the last time.
Hi Karen:
Per your questions -
1) New people are always welcome (in whatever form).
2) People can opt to become members after three meetings. (Half the members of WSFA are not in this Meetup group).
3) A plate to pass is always welcome. I usually send out a reminder the night before the meeting.
The 30th is a non-standard meeting. Since it is 5th Friday (as opposed to 1st or 3rd), it is more a social get-together than business.
Hope to see you then.

Hi Karen!
Welcome! We're always glad to see new people. Everyone is welcome at WSFA meetings. Oh, I guess it would be possible for someone to get themselves banned, but in the nearly 26 years I've been attending WSFA meetings, I've never seen it happen. So you and your husband are definitely welcome. Fifth Friday isn't an official club meeting, just the social part, so you don't have to be bored with the business meeting for your first foray into WSFA. A snack to share is encouraged.
Hi Karen:
Thank you for selecting WSFA. This is a new Meetup group, although WSFA as a club has been in the local DC area for over 60 years. We meet twice a month, one in Virginia, the other in Maryland, so you can potentially meet many different Sci-Fi enthusiasts over the month.
Hope to see you soon.
