My name is Michelle Drumheller. I just moved to Olney, MD. I am writing a young adult children's novel.
My book is geared toward young adults. My main character is a young girl living in West Virginia.
I am about 20,000 words into my book, this is the longest I have written. I am a published journalist and I write website content. I have never had a book published, only articles for newspapers and magazines.
I am very serious about having my book published. I just read Stephen King's book 'On Writing' and set some of my goals based on his recommendations. He recommends 1,500 words a day. I am having a difficult time with this. I believe I am a slower writer and like revisit my work more than I possibly should. I really would like to belong to a group to share and critique my work. I feel like I am in a vacuum writing by myself at home. I also understand that writing the book is just the beginning. Some books may never be published, some will.
I have been in critique groups before. In college we called them seminars. The best groups were the ones with participants who listened and gave thoughtful replies.
I am writing this book because it wants to be written and I want to write it.
