I'm interested in sharing ideas, conversation and the written word with other folks in the Baltimore/DC area.
Not really sure I have a "genre" yet. Currently working on a novel that has elements of psychological suspense, fantasy and romance. I've not written for YA or juvenile audiences, though I've read some classics of the genre
I used to write short stories and poetry in high school and college. Also tried my hand at a historical novel, which was never finished. Now I'm working on a full length novel with a contemporary setting for an adult audience.
Published a few poems a really long time ago. Did a little freelance (non-fiction) writing for a couple small magazines 10-15 years ago. Interested in maybe publishing my current story if I feel strongly enough about the finished thing.
Yes, in fine art and creative writing classes in college. My experience was that critiques were really helpful, providing insight and perspective to people's work they might not have otherwise considered.
No easy answer to that, but here goes nothing. As a kid I read fiction so voraciously that it's no surprise I'd eventually have a go at writing something of my own. For the past couple years, I've had a few ideas asking for permission to be heard. I guess the time has come to tell those stories, and see if they're of interest to anyone else. Also - when an idea is going well, writing is sort of intoxicating.
Columbia Writers seems a friendly, open bunch of folks who provide each other with constructive, well-considered feedback. They're definitely serious about telling good stories well, and I'd recommend this group to any aspiring writer in the area. I'll definitely be attending more of their meetups.
