This month's club meeting will feature: Digital Art by James Quantz
Scheduled for our July 8 meeting is a photographic presentation from Columbia’s own James Quantz, Jr., a photographer specializing in the processes and techniques of digital assemblage. In this genre of photography, multiple images and scene elements are com- bined to create one finished image using a variety of techniques in Adobe Photoshop andother software applications.
You may remember seeing an image that James entered into the South Carolina State Fair a few years ago in which he depicted a small group of elephants bathing at the Rosewood Car Wash, with the Charlotte skyline in the background. In recent years, you have probably seen his wonderful photographic work for the Athletics Department at the University of South Carolina. He has used his masterful assemblage skills to depict athletes and coaches of football, baseball, and other sports in moments of peak action or special drama, always with an eye for interesting lighting. His work is currently featured on the Gamecock Foot- ball Two-Thousand Fourteen schedule poster.
He has recently been traveling and doing photographic work for clients in the entertainment industry in New York City, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles. He has also caught the attention of ESPN, and is involved in a photographic project for them, and he will have an interview with Popular Photography magazine com- ing out later this summer. James also just completed a personal photographic project in nearby Camden, South Carolina in which he worked to recreate some of the battles and scenes that took place there in 1780 and 1781 during the Revolutionary War.
Come out for an evening of getting a behind-the-scenes look at the workflow of James Quantz, Jr., and bring your questions! To see more of the photographic work of James, visit his website, found HERE < a="">,<> or see his Facebook page entitled “James Quantz Jr Photography”.
